She had approached him one day, seemingly out of the blue, and all she said was, "Eagle, let's go on a date."

That...he wasn't expecting something like that.

He knew of her, certainly. Who didn't? Hiroki Yuu. Sporty and cute and outgoing. The most people said about Eagle was that he tried very hard and that he was cute in a "probably going to grow up to be an adult that gets mistaken for a highschooler" sort of way.

Which is when he hears Hiroki saying something like that...he accidentally snaps the pencil he's holding in half.

"Ah...are you okay?" You didn't get a splinter or anything, right?

She looks ta his hand, worried.

For Hiroki it wasn't that out of the blue. really. She thought Eagle was cute, which was why she'd often go over to talk to him even though they're not in the same class.

At some point she became pretty sure that he liked her too.

Hence, this conversation.

"Um. Y-Yes. I'm fine. Really."

He carefully, carefully sets the two halves of the pencil on the table. It's okay. He could do this.

"Wh-Why are you suddenly....I mean....I'm not really..."

"...was I being too forward?"

She figured that, since it didn't seem like Eagle was going to say anything that she should just go ahead and say it.

Maybe a confession would have been better after all...then again, Hiroki wasn't sure if that would have been any better.

"F-Forward? I-I don't...well...I'm really happy, it's just that....w-why me?"

Aya really admired Eagle's dedication to his responsibilities.

At the same time, though, she was worried about him when he went on patrols. After al, Eagle wasn't a very good fighter despite her attempts to teach him how to protect himself. (Of course, she had to admit, maybe trying to teach an eagle how to fight like a bear wasn't the best idea.)

So she usually accompanied him on his patrols.

"So where are we going next?"

Eagle really did admire Aya's strength. And if she went patrolling with him, that only meant that they could spend even more time together, right?

But at the same time....he wasn't sure sometimes why she insisted on going with him every time...Not that he'd say anything about it.

He looks back at her and smiles, "The lake."

It was because it was easier than hunting down whoever bullied him.

She smiled back easily. "Lead the way then."

He gives her a quick, decisive nod. "Then, this way."

The lake was also near his house, and it was full of fish. He wondered if she'd like it...

If it had fish then she probably will.

"You certainly work hard every day." Unlike a certain friend of hers, though she will admit that he's been getting better about not skipping lately.

He looks down, a blush spreading across his cheeks even as he smiles,

"Well, it's my job."

It was their first night in this place they're supposed to call home for now, with a man who claims to be their assigned father.

Lion looked at the two beds in the room and crossed his arms with a frown.

"So, uh...which one do you want?"

Eagle has to take a moment to look at the beds and decide. Not that it really mattered to him which bed he chose. As far as he was concerned, neither was genuinely fine. This wasn't his room in the treetops, or his couch draped with his blanket.

But thinking something like that...felt too much like whining, so he tries to put those thoughts out of his mind. He thought he was fine when it was still light, what with their assigned father being so nice, and everything still being so new. But now in this strange darkness, this strange bedroom....he wasn't so sure. He looks worried, but he tries his best to smile at Lion. He was the older one here, he had to be responsible.

"I don't mind. Really."

Stop treating him like a cub. He was already and adult, damn it.

Lion brought a hand up to rub at the back of his neck.

"I guess it doesn't really make a difference..."

"Then I'll take the one closer to the door."

You know, since Eagle is the older one here. He'll keep a lookout. (Despite having no night vision and being weak.)

"Sure." And Lion can keep look out on the window. It didn't occur to him yet that this was what Eagle was planning.

He walked over and took off his jacket and left it on a nearby chair. Then, without bothering to lift the blanket, he just lay down on the bed.

Eagle watches Lion for a moment before sighing and reaching for his own blanket to drape over Lion's shoulders.

Honestly, such a kid.

He then curls up in his own bed and tries to go to sleep.

Huang Rong flew over the Upper Yard. She pouted as she flew until she spotted the person she was looking for, then her face lit up.

"Eagle!" What she did after that could be called dive-bombing, though she beat her wings and slowed down so that she did not knock into him with quite that much force and wrapper har arms around his shoulder as she landed.

That didn't stop him from being surprised. More so by the fact that she was wrapping her arms around his shoulders because help she smelled really nice and what was happening.

"H-Huang Rong! W-What....you...I...?"

She turned to nuzzle his cheek in greeting. (Because this is a thing birds did.)

Huang Rong pouted, as she did though, "Eagle! Didn't I say to call me Rong-er?"

Nuzzling was against the rules. Even if it was a thing birds did, it didn't stop being embarrassing.

"S-Sorry! Rong-erghhhh.................I'm sorry, I think I bit my tongue."

She couldn't help but smile and stick closer to him. Really, he was too cute. Well, she was smiling up until he bit his tongue, anyway.

"Are you all right? It's not bleeding, is it?"

Eagle takes a moment to collect his thoughts, with his hands covering his face. Okay, he's got this.

"I...I think I'm okay."
