Not appreciating having his hand slapped he growled.

"You stupid bird! It's not like we're able to sleep anyway. Why are you so against this idea!?"

And half way through all that, Lion's put a knee on the bed, sort of half-lunging to grab Eagle's hands before the stupid bird gets it into his head to try to shove him off.

And despite being a species of eagle with a five-foot wing span, he really didn't have the muscle or weight to support a lion, so they both topple over into what Eagle thinks (with the part of his brain that isn't screaming) is a position he really, really doesn't want to be in.

Eagle reflexively closes his eyes tightly so he doesn't have to think about the way the bed dipped under Lion's weight and the fact that his hands couldn't move.

"G-Get off! Stupid lion! Bald lion! Mean! Terrible! Pervert!"

"Look, just--why are you calling me a pervert!?"

For the supposed Ero King Lion hasn't actually noticed the position they were in.

"And I'm not bald!"

With that, Eagle immediately starts to struggle, even though his eyes are still tightly shut and he's desperately trying not to think of anything other than nice, tranquil things like snowy tundras even while the blush was spreading to the tips of his ears, "I don't care! Get off me right now!"

Lion growled and, for a moment he really wasn't going to budge and it was there in the way his grip tightened though not to the point of hurting (he had learnt, after all this time, how to avoid hurting Eagle).

Then he let go all of a sudden with a scoff and sat back at the foot of the bed. He wasn't on Eagle anymore but he wasn't getting off the bed.

He was also sitting there, scowling.

There's a moment when he honestly wants to keep shouting, but the way Lion tightens his grip makes him go silent. He knew Lion would never intentionally hurt him. He knew that.

Swallowing, and suddenly feeling as if he'd done something wrong, Eagle pushes himself into a sitting position. There's silence for quite a long time, because Eagle just isn't sure what he should say. He didn't think he'd done anything wrong, but...

"........Lion?"

And Lion just keeps scowling the entire time they weren't talking. Which is not to say he actually stopped when Eagle spoke.

He does turn his face away though.

"...you smell like home."

"Oh."

Because he can't think of anything intelligent to say. Because he's almost ashamed of himself for acting this way when he was supposed to be the responsible adult.

He couldn't just hang onto Lion like he saw a lot of the others casually do. Firstly, it was embarrassing. Secondly, Snowy Owl was the one who was hanging around him the most and he didn't want to intrude. But she wasn't here. There was no one here but them. There's a moment's hesitation, and then he's wrapping his arms carefully around Lion's shoulders in a loose hug.

"Sorry. I guess, that was kind of rude of me to accuse you of all that. I'm sorry."

"Yeah, well." He keeps his face turned away from Eagle and it might look like he's sulking, but the truth is he's hiding a blush.

"Forget about it. It doesn't matter."

Well...Lion was still young, right? It was only normal to be lonely and miss home. Even the adult Eagle had difficulty dealing with this new environment. This time, he doesn't hesitate, pressing himself close to Lion.

"Sorry."

His words are muffled by Lion's shoulder.

"I said forget about it." And he puts his arm around Eagle.

He has nothing to say in reply to that, so Eagle's hands come up to carefully grip against the back of Lion's shirt. He had to admit though, the warmth of Lion's body against his was actually...really nice. They'd never really slept together back home (because wow, no one would ever let either of them live that down) but now he wonders why.

"This...feels really good."

And despite himself, his own heartbeat was slowing, calming because Lion was a reminder of home and if he'd ever let himself admit to it...Lion was actually the one who reminded him of home even more than Snowy Owl or Kangaroo. He was his responsibility, after all.

Lion blushes at the admission because it does, but well...how do you even admit something like that out loud?

But Lion relaxes when Eagle holds him back and he calms down.

"Yeah. Well." He shifts and holds Eagle more securely, "just go to sleep."

He can admit it out loud because this whole day has just been stressful, and to have something calming and comfortable....that alone had put him at ease more than he could ever admit.

Now that he was warm and comfortable (and the darkness was settling in), Eagle snuggles into Lion as he begins to drift off, his hands still curled in his shirt. He gives the fabric a sleepy yank to get Lion's attention,

"You too. You need..."

He yawns, "You need to sleep...too..."

"You need it more than I do, stupid bird."

Lion's not used to feeling so tired in the dark and he's also unused to how dark everything looked.

He couldn't even see Eagle's face clearly.

But he's warm, snuggled against Lion and that's enough for now.

"Don't call me...stupid..."

But there's no real bite to his words, because even as he says it, Eagle's already drifting off, pressing his face into Lion's chest.

"....thanks..."

"...whatever." And Lion is falling asleep as well. (But he's smiling.)
