The last thing she sees is the heartbroken expression on his face.

Yu hadn't wanted to put that expression their, felt guilty that it was there because of her. But there was no other way. The war was lost and from this point on, she will only be another worry, another burden for him to bear. She couldn't stand that.

Whatever happened tomorrow, he couldn't afford to be distracted.

My king, forgive Yu for going ahead.

Then she died and that was that.

Except...except it wasn't.

She feels herself stirring. She lay there for a moment before her eyes slowly fluttered open.

Well, if that isn't a welcome sight...

"...my king."

The last thing he remembered seeing was the wide blue sky as he wondered where she was now. Was she happy now? Was she waiting for him?

And then he had died and that was that.

Except it hadn't been, and that person had offered him whatever he wanted if he would lend him his power. So he had, and as he watches her eyes open, he pulls her close.

"Idiot...!"

She didn't resist when he pulled her close. She didn't care about how or why they.

She only brought her arms up to hold onto him, because since a long time ago the thing she cared about the most was him. Whether it was in a hovel or a palace, whether it was Hell or Heaven or anywhere else, she only wanted to be where this person was.

He just held her, aware that he was probably hurting her but wanting to make sure....wanting to convince himself that she was really here.

Even if it hurt, she would never tell him, and the way he held her was reassuring. It meant he still wanted her here despite the fact that she had put that heartbroken expression on his face.

Despite the fact that she hadn't followed him until the very end as she'd always promised to.

"My king..." When she could, she pulled back, just enough to see his face, to frame it between her hands. "I didn't think I would see your face again."

He's not done with the lecturing yet. Or at least, he thought he wasn't.

But the only thing that is going through his mind is "idiot" and an almost overwhelming sense of happiness. Just seeing her here, seeing her alive, hearing her voice, it was more comforting than he ever thought possible.

"...Idiot."

He pulls her back, lips against her ear, "Don't ever do that again. I'll kill you myself if you ever try that again. Idiot. No matter what, don't you dare try that again."

It was the threat of what he would do that made her chest tighten.

"You must'nt." SHe says and her hands curl into fists where they rested against his chest. "Yu promises to stay by your side until the end, but even if I should be lost, you must'nt to something like that."

He pushes her back a little ways with a serious look on his face, "If you break your promise, I will never forgive you. And don't presume that you can tell me what to do."

With that all said and done, he pulls her back close, the unreal feeling of being alive again and holding her making his mind feel like a mess. All he knew was that this time, he would protect her to the end. No matter what.

She blinks, but then she smiles at him, as if she didn't realize she was being scolded. (She did, but even this was a kind of happiness for her. One she hadn't thought she'd ever experience again.)

She brings her arms up to wrap around the back of his neck.

"As my king commands."

There's the slightest huff against her ear as he concedes to that point, at least. Content just to lean against her, he buries his head into her shoulder, still holding her much too tight and too possessively.

As much as she wanted to pretend nothing else exists beyong this embrace, she couldn't put it off forever.

Without pushing him away she tilted her head to look around.

"My king, where are we?"

He knows better than anyone that the real world existed beyond her. That didn't mean he had to acknowledge it when he didn't want to.

"Does it matter?"

Because wasn't the only thing that mattered here her being alive? Being here with him? Who cared about the rest of the world?
