"It's more than that, isn't it?" People didn't risk themselves in fights they can't fin for something that was just a job.

"I know that, protecting the peace of the Upper Yard is something you take really seriously." It's part of what drew her to him in the first place. She laced her fingers behind her back.

"I really admire that about you."

A-Admire?

"Um. I. Thank you. Really. I admire you a lot too. Because you're strong. And kind. And cute. And really nice."

Wait. Did he just say cute?!

Eagle looks away.

"Y-you think I'm cute?"

Cute was not a word many people put into the same sentence as Aya, and she's a little embarrassed but mostly just ridiculously pleased to hear him say that.

That depends on whether or not he's going to be killed for it.

"Y-Yes. I-I really do think so. I-I guess. I mean. If that's okay with you..."

"Oh." He thinks she's cute.

She couldn't help but blush. Aya brings a hand up to scratch at her face lightly as she looked to the side.

"I-I guess it's okay." then, more softly, "no one's ever called me cute before."

"Th-Then I'll call you that more often."

He looks determinedly at his side as well. The other side. Away from where she was looking.

"Won't that be a little embarrassing though?" Still not looking at him, "I-I mean...not that I don't like it..." Someone please just shut her up. Please.

"Well...i-if it's something that will make you happy, even if it's distracting I'll do it!"

He meant embarrassing. HE MEANT TO SAY EMBARRASSING.

...okay. Well. That gets her to stop talking.

She turned around, stared at him for a moment before breaking out in giggles.

Can someone remind him how breathing works? Anyone?

She covers her mouth with a hand and when the giggling dies down a little she pats him on the shoulder.

"Thank you, Eagle. That's...it's really sweet of you."

"D-Don't mention it."

No, really. Please don't mention this to anyone.

She won't. After all, this is none of their business! It's especially none of Kangaroo's business.

She smiled and looked back towards the way they're going.

"It's pretty quiet today too, huh?"

He's not sure why she has it out for Kangaroo. He's...kind. Sorta. Sometimes.

He blinks at her question, and looks around, "...You're right."

She doesn't eactly have it out for the guy...they just somehow always ended up fighting.

"It must be because you and Lion work so hard."

Or because any would be trouble makers tended to run away the moment they saw Aya or caught her scent. Bears sometimes have that effect on people.

"It would be nice if that was true."

Eagle thinks that's kind of mean of them though. Aya was really sweet. And kind. And cute.

And he stops himself right there, because he walks into a tree.

"I'm sure it's--Eagle!"

She hadn't expected him to walk into a tree. So there was a moment when she just...gaped.

"Um...are you okay?"

He recovers as best as he could, holding one hand to his forehead, "Yes! I-I'm fine! I'm okay! Perfectly fine!"

She doesn't look really convinced so she reaches over to take his hand away from his forehead.

"Here, let me take a look..."

He can't say no. He really can't.

Fidgeting terribly, Eagle stands rooted to one spot as she takes (!!) his hand.

She doesn't let go of his hand. Instead she brings the other one up to brush his forehead lightly.

"It looks like it didn't break skin...and I don't think it's going to bruise."

What a relief.

This is already much closer than his brain can handle and wow, she was really pretty.

Wait.

Eagle shakes the thought from his head of her long eyelashes and her pretty eyes and just like someone who is determined not to think of a pink rhinoceros, ends up thinking of nothing but her.

"Thank goodness." She sighs and...wow. Are you blushing?

"...Eagle?"

"I wasn't thinking anything strange!"

Way to blow your own cover, Eagle.

Okay. That wasn't suspicious at all. (And by that she means it's totally suspicious.)

She grins a little, "Hey, come on. You can tell me!"
