Lion sighed, irritated (at himself and at this place more than at Eagle) and then turned to flop onto his back.

"Nah. This place smells weird." And he can't see in the dark. That really bothered him.

You have no idea how relieved Eagle is to hear that. There's a definite smile in his voice, "Yeah. It is weird."

But Lion was here...and somehow that made it better. In a world full of things he didn't recognize or know, it was nice that Lion was still an unchanging constant.

Lion snorts.

"Don't sound so happy about that." He doesn't sound that irritated though.

Lion shifts, putting his hands behind his head and staring up at the ceiling.

"It's just nice that you're here, that's all."

You can't see it in the dark, but Eagle is definitely smiling.

Lion fidgets and is very much not looking at Eagle. It isn't because he's embarrassed to hear that someone is glad he's here or anything.

"Yeah, well..." He sounds so awkward right now. "same to you, I guess."

There is a quiet laugh from Eagle's side and for a little while, he does get to sleep just with that feeling of not being alone.

But not for long.

"...Lion? Are you sleeping?"

"........no."

[eagleofthe_west]

".......me neither."

Eagle sits up, tucking his knees to his chest, "I'm sleepy...but I just can't sleep."

"Yeah..." He sat up and rubbed at the back of his neck. He stared at Eagle for a moment before swinging his legs over the side of the bed and getting up.

"Move over."

He's not sure he heard correctly because haha, Eagle could have sworn he just heard Lion tell him to move over.

"What? What did you say?"

"I said: move over." And when Lion is close enough he leans over to nudge Eagle. Just in case he missed what he said again.

"You- What are you doing? You can't just-!"

He sits up, but makes no motion to move over.

"This is my bed!"

[lionofthe_east]

"I know that!" It was a quiet hiss though, because he doesn't want Keith in here again. "But I can't sleep because this place smells weird and you're the same way so we should just share a bed."

How he managed to say that without feeling embarrasses is anyone's guess.

"J-Just because that's true doesn't mean that it's a reason to share a bed! Go back! Don't come any closer!"

Eagle all but hisses at him, and if he had his wings he'd probably be beating them in agitation.

[lionofthe_east]

"Look. We'll just give it a try and if it doesn't work out then we'll stop, okay?"

Probably, he shouldn't make it sound like they're pursuing a relationship here. All the same, he reaches out to shove Eagle over.

"No!"

Eagle shrinks back when Lion reaches out and then slaps his hand away.

"Go back to your own bed, you stupid lion!"

[lionofthe_east]

Not appreciating having his hand slapped he growled.

"You stupid bird! It's not like we're able to sleep anyway. Why are you so against this idea!?"

And half way through all that, Lion's put a knee on the bed, sort of half-lunging to grab Eagle's hands before the stupid bird gets it into his head to try to shove him off.

And despite being a species of eagle with a five-foot wing span, he really didn't have the muscle or weight to support a lion, so they both topple over into what Eagle thinks (with the part of his brain that isn't screaming) is a position he really, really doesn't want to be in.

Eagle reflexively closes his eyes tightly so he doesn't have to think about the way the bed dipped under Lion's weight and the fact that his hands couldn't move.

"G-Get off! Stupid lion! Bald lion! Mean! Terrible! Pervert!"

"Look, just--why are you calling me a pervert!?"

For the supposed Ero King Lion hasn't actually noticed the position they were in.

"And I'm not bald!"

With that, Eagle immediately starts to struggle, even though his eyes are still tightly shut and he's desperately trying not to think of anything other than nice, tranquil things like snowy tundras even while the blush was spreading to the tips of his ears, "I don't care! Get off me right now!"

Lion growled and, for a moment he really wasn't going to budge and it was there in the way his grip tightened though not to the point of hurting (he had learnt, after all this time, how to avoid hurting Eagle).

Then he let go all of a sudden with a scoff and sat back at the foot of the bed. He wasn't on Eagle anymore but he wasn't getting off the bed.

He was also sitting there, scowling.

There's a moment when he honestly wants to keep shouting, but the way Lion tightens his grip makes him go silent. He knew Lion would never intentionally hurt him. He knew that.

Swallowing, and suddenly feeling as if he'd done something wrong, Eagle pushes himself into a sitting position. There's silence for quite a long time, because Eagle just isn't sure what he should say. He didn't think he'd done anything wrong, but...

"........Lion?"

And Lion just keeps scowling the entire time they weren't talking. Which is not to say he actually stopped when Eagle spoke.

He does turn his face away though.

"...you smell like home."

"Oh."


Because he can't think of anything intelligent to say. Because he's almost ashamed of himself for acting this way when he was supposed to be the responsible adult.

He couldn't just hang onto Lion like he saw a lot of the others casually do. Firstly, it was embarrassing. Secondly, Snowy Owl was the one who was hanging around him the most and he didn't want to intrude. But she wasn't here. There was no one here but them. There's a moment's hesitation, and then he's wrapping his arms carefully around Lion's shoulders in a loose hug.

"Sorry. I guess, that was kind of rude of me to accuse you of all that. I'm sorry."

"Yeah, well." He keeps his face turned away from Eagle and it might look like he's sulking, but the truth is he's hiding a blush.

"Forget about it. It doesn't matter."
