Shiho didn't really like rain. It was wet and it was cold, and worst of all it made her hair poufy. As far as she was concerned, the only good thing about the rain was that it gave her a legitimate excuse to steal Aoi's polka dot rain boots and wear her coat with the hood up (so it framed her face perfectly).

She gives the man standing in the rain a weird look before she sighs and makes her way over, holding her umbrella over his head, "Are you lost?"

[directking]

"Hm?" He turned from the skies to look at the girl who approached him. How interesting. Most normal humans couldn't see him, so that meant that this girl had to have something special about her, right?

He smiled even as the rain soaked his King's robes. "Not really." Ryuuko knew his clothes weren't normal by human standards though he's never really given it much thought. "Are you?"

Shiho was certain that no one smiled while getting soaked through with rain. What was this supposed to be? Some kind of cliched scene out of a shoujo manga?

This guy was either crazy or an idiot. Or a crazy idiot.

She raised an eyebrow at him, "No. But you'll catch your death of cold if you stay outside like this."

[directking]

If he knew what she was thinking he'd tell her that his coutnerpart has called him both those things in the past and he would say it with a smile.

"I can't really catch colds and I don't think I'd catch a cold just from getting wet."" Ah, his bangs are getting in his face. He reaches up to brush them out of the way. "Thank you for your concern, though." He was being perfectly sincere too.

This was shaping up to be the kind of situation that would probably end with "Suspiciously Dressed Male Corpse Found In Park Police Asking For Leads".

The kind of situation, actually, that Shiho would read from the deceased's belongings, figure out the truth and then be extremely disappointed over how boring the case really was.

If this guy was an idiot though, that would explain why he thought he couldn't catch colds. Idiots never caught colds.

"I see. If you're planning on catching a cold though, could you at least find your way to a hospital?"

[directking]

It had nothing to do with him being an idiot (in fact, he's never even heard of that saying) it was simply because Ryuuko wasn't human and as such couldn't actually catch human illnesses.

"I'm afraid I don't know where one is. And I doubt they'd treat me even if I was sick." Because he's not human, see.

When Shiho hears that, she stops. She had been perfectly okay with just leaving him to die until she heard him say that. But now she couldn't very well leave some kind of lost foreigner who had no health insurance behind to die, right?

...This really was shipping up to be some kind of cliched shoujo manga situation, wasn't it?

"And why is that?"

[directking]

He didn't even know what health insurance was. If he did though, he would find it rather fascinating. It's a lot like gambling, isn't it?

"Well, because I'm not really human."

"Ah. I see."

Shiho starts backing away, not really watching where she was going in the desire to get away from this...this thing that wasn't human.

That's why the heel of Aoi's polka dot rain boots get caught in the tiles of the pavement and she starts pitching backwards.

If Ryuuko's powers were creating and controlling vines it would have been easy enough to help her. Sadly, ice was pretty much useless in this situation and that was what he controlled. It was a small consolation that Shirogane's powers would be equally useless in this instance.

He reached forward to grab her arm and steady her around the waist. It would have looked a lot cooler if he hadn't also skidded on the wet pavement a little when he moved to help her but at least he was still standing. (It wasn't like he cared about looking cool too much.)

"Are you all right?"

Shiho's hands automatically clutch at the front of Ryuuko's coat, and stops.

She can feel the warmth from his hands, and the body under the coat seemed real enough.

But at the same time, her powers are giving her memories of death.

"L-Let go of me, you ghost!"

[directking]

"I will but you need to stop struggling first." Ryuuko wasn't going to ask about how she knew he was a ghost. It seemed an odd assumption for her to make when she could touch him, that, however, was a question for later. "If you don't, you might slip again."

He honestly was going to let her go, though he's not sure how to let her know. All he can do is speak as honestly as he could.

"I'm not going to hurt you, but I don't want to see you hurt yourself either."

"If you don't want to see me hurt myself, then stop being a ghost!"

She does stop struggling though. More because she was tired of it, and it wasn't really doing anything. She could tell though, that he was being sincere and his words matched what he was thinking in his mind.

[directking]

He actually stopped to stare at her a moment. "That's not really possible, I don't think." He lets go though, just like he promised he would. "Even if it was possible, if I came back to life it would just cause a lot of problems for everyone at this point."

When he lets go, she pauses to straighten up her coat and hair before she starts her rant, partly because OH GOD IT'S A GHOST, partly because what he said just rubbed her the wrong way.

"That doesn't even make any sense! Isn't there anyone that cares about you? I bet they want to see you stop being a ghost! Don't make them sad, you ghost!"

[directking]

Oh, if only she knew...

"There are, but I am no longer a part of their lives now. The space I left behind has already been filled." He smiled without even a hint of sadness or regret. That's right, things were finally settling down and balance was returning. There was no place for him in their lives now. "Even if they want me to come back to life, that's not what's best for them...not to mention that it's impossible."

"Just because it's been filled doesn't mean that you can be replaced just like that, you ghost."

She puts her hands on her hips, "Don't go around deciding things for people, you ghost!"

[directking]

"Even if I haven't been replaced, I am no longer necessary." Really, he thought what he was saying was perfectly logical (even if it did hurt a little). Still, he was interested to hear what this girl wanted to say. He wanted to try to understand her viewpoint and feelings on this as much as one such as himself can.

Hope he enjoys having a finger wagged in front of his face then.

"For the people who care about you, you're plenty necessary, you stupid ghost!"

She jabs the finger into his chest, and narrows her eyes, "And don't give me that stuff about it being logical if it's obviously hurting you. Idiot."

[directking]

"Oh, you noticed?" Ryuuko's smile was honest and without any hint of mocking. It just wasn't the sort of person he was. "I won't deny that they'd want to see me, but you musn't confuse want with necessity." You couldn't even call what he felt resignation. To be resigned implied that he wished it was otherwise even if he knew it could not be changed.

He merely accepted it. This was how things must be, and things had turned out for the better, hadn't they?

"As far as I'm concerned, want is necessity."

But she is hideously spoiled by the people around her.

"This isn't something you just accept."

[directking]

"There's nothing to do but to accept it though. As I said, there's no way to return for me."

What a strange girl. He couldn't imagine ever thinking like she did. Even Shirogane would think that (even if he would define what he wanted as necessity he would never say the two were the same).

She reaches out a hand to press against his sleeve when he says that there's no choice but to accept it. Partly because this ghost was taking too long to explain, partly because his behaviour pissed her off.

And what she sees makes her frown, "...You were murdered?"

"Yes."

Figuring out he was a ghost was one thing. This was something else entirely.

"How did you know?"

"I'm a psychometer. I can read memories and thoughts from people as well as inanimate objects."

Shiho is defensive about that though, and can't help but sound a bit overly matter-of-fact when she's talking about her powers. She already expects to get her hand slapped away, even if the person she was talking to was this weird ghost.
