"Even if I haven't been replaced, I am no longer necessary." Really, he thought what he was saying was perfectly logical (even if it did hurt a little). Still, he was interested to hear what this girl wanted to say. He wanted to try to understand her viewpoint and feelings on this as much as one such as himself can.

Hope he enjoys having a finger wagged in front of his face then.

"For the people who care about you, you're plenty necessary, you stupid ghost!"

She jabs the finger into his chest, and narrows her eyes, "And don't give me that stuff about it being logical if it's obviously hurting you. Idiot."

[directking]

"Oh, you noticed?" Ryuuko's smile was honest and without any hint of mocking. It just wasn't the sort of person he was. "I won't deny that they'd want to see me, but you musn't confuse want with necessity." You couldn't even call what he felt resignation. To be resigned implied that he wished it was otherwise even if he knew it could not be changed.

He merely accepted it. This was how things must be, and things had turned out for the better, hadn't they?

"As far as I'm concerned, want is necessity."

But she is hideously spoiled by the people around her.

"This isn't something you just accept."

[directking]

"There's nothing to do but to accept it though. As I said, there's no way to return for me."

What a strange girl. He couldn't imagine ever thinking like she did. Even Shirogane would think that (even if he would define what he wanted as necessity he would never say the two were the same).

[i_have_a_taser]

She reaches out a hand to press against his sleeve when he says that there's no choice but to accept it. Partly because this ghost was taking too long to explain, partly because his behaviour pissed her off.

And what she sees makes her frown, "...You were murdered?"

[directking]

"Yes."

Figuring out he was a ghost was one thing. This was something else entirely.

"How did you know?"

"I'm a psychometer. I can read memories and thoughts from people as well as inanimate objects."

Shiho is defensive about that though, and can't help but sound a bit overly matter-of-fact when she's talking about her powers. She already expects to get her hand slapped away, even if the person she was talking to was this weird ghost.

[directking]

"That's a useful ability." Instead of slapping her hand away, he carefully took it in his and examined it. "I assume you have to be touching a person to read them?" Since she hadn't know until she'd touched him.

[i_have_a_taser]

The fact that he hadn't slapped her hand away was honestly weird. And the genuine interest he took in her powers (as far as she could read from him) was even weirder.

She wondered if she should slap him instead.

"Yes."

[directking]

"Ah. I knew someone who could do something similar."

Except Shisui's power worked a little differently.

"He didn't have to be in contact with a person to read them, however."

It should be clear, as he continued to examine her palm as if it might answer all his questions that he was the sort of person who often said exactly what he was thinking.

It was. In some ways, this guy kind of reminded her of the first time she had read Kaoru. He really didn't hide what he was thinking...

But that didn't mean he could keep holding her hand like it was nothing. Shiho pulls her hand back, partly because this guy was weird, and partly because she was really only thirteen years-old and having her hand held like this was embarrassing.

"Pervert-ghost."

[directking]

He didn't try to stop her from pulling back. He did, however look confused by the accusation.

"How am I a pervert?"

"An ancient ghost holding a thirteen year-old girl's hand. Tell me what part of that doesn't make you a pervert."

And he had the gall to look confused about it too.

[directking]

"I'm still not sure which part of it makes me a pervert."

[i_have_a_taser]

"Every single part."

[directking]

It says a lot about the kind of person he was that he actually stopped to think about it.

And thought about it.

And thought about it.

"...I don't understand how."

[i_have_a_taser]

"That sounds like an excuse to me."

[directking]

"It's not an excuse." Of course, he supposed she wouldn't know (even though he had a feeling he was being toyed with). He held out his hand to her.

"If you don't believe me, you can check." It honestly didn't bother him in the least.

[i_have_a_taser]

She slaps her hand into his. Probably with more force than necessary.

It wasn't because he held his hand out to her despite knowing that she could read it. And that kind of raised her regard for him.

Mostly it was that he pissed her off. Stupid ghost.

[directking]

Ryuuko has never felt like he had anything to hide. Even when he went behind Shirogane's advice to create Kou he had never technically gone behind Shirogane's back. He had, honestly and without hiding his intentions presented his idea to Shirogane. It was just that he decided not to heed his Counterpart's advice in light of the fact that he was fairly confident in his calculations and because Shirogane's opinion was rendered invalid since he hadn't even bothered to hear Ryuuko out.

His hand curls around her more gently. It was probably more natural to do that than to not move his hand at all.

Shiho really was tempted to slap him and run away crying about how he was a pervert.

But she was pretty sure no one but her could see him. She would look like a nutcase.

So she settles with doing what she gave him her hand to do. And doesn't like what she sees at all.

"You, are a Grade A jerk."

[directking]

Ryuuko wasn't even offended. Just like when Shisui said he was unlike what the human King had imagined, Ryuuko was merely curious.

"How so?"

"Treating the people who care about you like that. You don't even understand what you're doing when you're doing it."

[directking]

"I'm not sure which instance you're referring to." Becuase, for all that he wasn't quite human, Ryuuko actually did know what he was doing to them. When he still chose to do what he did, it was because it made the most sense, even if it meant hurting himself or others.

"But I've never made my decisions lightly." There was a flicker of sadness and regret in his eyes, but his voice was firm. "I did what I had to."
