Shirogane sighs heavily as he leans against the railing of the balcony, a golden glass of Piper Heidsieck 1907 in his hand. He really wasn't sure why he was here.

One moment he had been working at home, the next moment he had felt a pair of arms around his shoulders and a familiar scent before there was a shifting of his surroundings that signalled teleportation.

Then he'd found himself here. In the middle of nowhere. And hadn't he just finished drinking from this glass? Why...was it full again?

The day had started as normally. Then she'd stopped in the hall to talk to one of the guys in R&D, one of Shirogane's friends(?) by the name of Kou. She wasn't entirely certain how their conversation got to that point, but they started discussing Shirogane and alcohol.

What she heard had been interesting enough to warrant kidnapping further investigation.

Which is why they were here, with her topping off his glass with the most expensive champagne in her collection.

Then she was topping off her own.

"This was one of my father's most prized bottles."

Shirogane watches the tiny bubbles rise up from the bottom of the glass for a while, distracted before he tilts his head to look at her, "Why are you opening it then?"

"Champagne is made to be drunk, Shirogane~." She took a sip from her glass and smiled at him. "And what better time to enjoy it than on a warm night with good company?"

"That's true."

He takes another sip of the wine, letting the sweetness linger on his tongue as he looked out into the night.

When had actually agrees with her Fujiko nearly drops her champagne flute out of surprise.

"W-what did you just say?"

"That's true. You're good company even if you're annoying sometimes."

He genuinely did like being with her when she wasn't getting in the way of his research.

Is that supposed to be a compliment...?

"But you like Fujiko, right?"

Champagne flute empty, he turns to look at her, silver hair falling over his shoulder, "Yes. I do."

She turns to take a drink from her own champagne flute because his honesty right now is actually making her feel a little embarrassed.

Fujiko recovered quickly though and soon she was turning to him with a different question.

"So between Ryuuko and me, who do you like better?"

"Ryuuko."

For one, Ryuuko made him a lot less angry in the twenty-odd years he had known the man versus the year or so he'd known Fujiko.

She looked dejected at the answer and she tosses back the rest of the contents of her glass.

"...I'm not even sure why I asked."

"I don't know either."

Despite the less-than-polite answer, Shirogane looks really peaceful, staring out into the night.

"Then at least name reasons why you love Fujiko!"

[thelongestword]

"You are dedicated and confident in yourself. I respect that in you. And I like your eyes."

Because he honestly didn't focus on other people's outward appearances. Shirogane wouldn't give the time of day to anyone who didn't earn his respect first.

...that's it? But her eye colour is pretty common in...actually not just Japan but in most Asian countries.

She just sighed and tops off his glass again. Just get drunk and pass out already.

"I think it might have been better if you weren't such an honest drunk."

What he means is the expression in her eyes. The strength and determination he can see in them.

"I'm honest even when I'm not drunk."

Just not about everything.

Then he should have just said that.

"The kind of honest where you'd rather I read something off you than actually say it?"

"It's faster that way. And I like the feeling of holding your hands."

"...you do?" That, she hadn't expected to hear.

"Yes."

He reaches a hand out for hers, eyes calm as he laces their fingers together.

"Well, why didn't you say so in the first place?" she pouted at him.

[thelongestword]

"Because you didn't ask."

[17cubed]

She stares for a moment before she just laughs helplessly. She sets her now empty glass on the bannister before reaching out to tuck some of his hair behind his ear.

"Honestly, you really are hopeless when it comes to this."

Shirogane leans into the feeling of her fingers against his skin, "I don't see how I'm hopeless."
