He wasn't expecting to see her there on the street. It wasn't exactly a time when she was normally by, anyway.

But that didn't matter. Her being there or not didn't change the fact that he had errands to run. Turning back to the glass door of his store as if he hadn't even seen her, he locks up and starts heading off towards the other shops in the area.

Fujiko hadn't meant to come this way. It was just that, when she started wandering aimlessly, this was the place her feet ended up taking her.

She blinked at the familiar street and the familiar store-front before breaking into a wide smile and walked over.

"Good morning!"

...wow. That was so rude. She made a face before running to catch up, quickly falling into step with him.

"Honestly, this is no way to treat a lady, Shirogane-san."

This is the way he treats all ladies though?

"I don't see anything wrong with the way I'm acting."

"...I hope you're joking." No, she seriouslt hopes he is. "Even you can't possibly be that maladjusted."

"This is the way I am, and I'm not changing the way I act just to impress someone I couldn't care less about."

Always a ray of sunshine, this guy.

"...you're going to die alone." She declares after staring for a moment before reaching out to hold onto his arm. She did have a soft spot for this guy though she couldn't figure out why. "But I guess it's fine. If no one wants you, you could come live on our library when you can no longer work." She sniffs, "I'm sure you and Utusmi-san will get along. Or you'll kill each other. I don't really care."

"As long as you're not bothering me everyday, I can think about it."

He moves his hand out of her reach.

"Hmph! You say that like I want to see you everyday! I have beter thing to do, you know."

She glares at him before turning up her nose at him. It's not like she wanted to hold onto him anyway!

In a distant sort of way, she realized that her fingertips were bleeding, but it was eclipsed by the tight, painful feeling in her chest.

This wasn't supposed to happen. She was supposed to be able to protect him!

She stood up, breathing hard. She wasn't getting anywhere like this. With a steadying breath, she reached out a hand and tried to move the stones with her powers. Slowly...but she can't go slowly even now he might be--like Shiga-san who had left this world where she couldn't help, couldn't even say goodbye...

NO! She didn't want that! Never again!

She sat in her room after the funeral. She listened to the rain hit the glass for a while before she unlatched the window and opened it, letting in the rain.

She sat there for a while longer, but eventually, she just left. (When Kyousuke came in later, the window was still open.)

Even in the rain, she knew the way to the bookstore like the way was carved into her mind somewhere.

She was soaked completely by the time she landed. She reached for the door then hesitated. After a moment, she just let her hand drop back to her side before she turned and just sat down with her back to the door.

She didn't...actually want him to see her like this, so this much was fine.

It was fine.

He fully intended to let her sit out there. But she was in the way of his business and besides, looking at her back made his head hurt. He stalks over and opens the door none too gently, "If you're going to sit out there, you might as well come in."

She jumped a little when the door suddenly opened. Fujiko was...kind of hoping he'd be so preoccupied with his books that he wouldn't notice until after she left.

What was this guy doing looking up all of a sudden? Geez.

She wanted to stand up, tell him it's fine and just leave. Or tease him about...something, anything.

But she couldn't muster up the energy to do either of those things. And she didn't really want to anyway.

After a moment, she slowly stood up and turned around to face him. Though that wasn't entirely right. She wasn't actually looking at him, after all, not with her head down like that.

That wasn't like her at all. He had been half-expecting one of his books to fly at him from behind.

He crosses his arms, "What."

She wasn't sure what she expected from him, really. She already knew he completely sucked at empathy and romance...so why here? Why did she...?

She took a shaky breath and, without even thinking, she took a step closer and wrapped her arms around him, burying her face in his shirt.

There's a moment's pause as he adjusts his stance to accommodate the fact that she's now much too close.

And then he just stands there because what is he supposed to do...he can't read her like others can. Mostly he thought that she was just noisy and annoying...but at the same time...he's not sure why but seeing her so unlike her usual self was....it was odd and he wasn't sure that he preferred her this way.

She wasn't crying. She wasn't going to cry, damn it.

She just needed a moment to collect herself, to remind herself that she was stronger than this. It was just easier to do here.

She breathed in shakily, but otherwise didn't move.

"Idiot."

And he doesn't move, although he does frown, "What?"

I think this is my fifth tag.

"Idiot." She repeats again, her voice more hoarse than before. Her arms tighten around his waist.

"All of you are idiots." It's cold, too cold and she draws in another shaky breath, then, without preamble, before he can respond, she adds, "You're not allowed to leave me."

He's not sure why he's being called an idiot, but feels irritated about it anyways. Whether this is from the way her voice sounds or because he's being called an idiot is up for debate.

"Even if I leave, there's no where else I want to go. And stop calling me an idiot."

With that, he starts to loosen her vise-like grip on his waist.

"I'm not going anywhere."

He shifted then, and for a moment, he fights the darkness that is threatening to drag him under. He didn't want to go. He wanted to stay, for her. The thought of that girl, running off to cry by herself makes him grit his teeth and want nothing more than to live.

He would marry her, he told himself. He would live through this and he would fill her days with books, with maps, with life so that she'd never have time to be unhappy.

Shirogane's fingers scrape against the ground as he tries to move. He never even bought her a ring.

Shirogane turns away from the books he's shelving with an irritated sigh, "I don't see why we need a ring."

And with his piece said, he starts organizing a pile of cheap English novels by author, intent on ignoring whatever this ring nonsense was.

"I already told you." Fujiko frowns and crosses her arms. "Because it's romantic."

There is something in her tone that implies that she strongly suspects her fiance of being romantically retarded.

"And I want a ring." She says as if that seals the deal, because clearly that's the most important thing.
