"If you don't know that much after all the time we've spent together, I really misjudged your observation skills." Yako pulled a face at a few examples of the 'ugh why can't they just get MARRRIED' breed of commentary.

"Yeah...They have these weird theories too. Like, according to some of them, we're secretly married. Or secretly siblings. Or both. It's so weird."

He notices the face she pulls at the commentary (kind of hard not to notice when his face was right next to hers) and smiles to himself imaging the kind of face Neuro would make if they really were secretly married, "I can't do anything about the siblings thing, but we could get married if you wanted, you know?"

"No," Yako corrects slowly, turning to eye him a bit strangely. "No, I don't think we could. Unless we wanted Neuro to murder us in our sleep. I have a list of reasons why I don't try to go on date anymore, and he factors into at least half of them." Sai factors into roughly ninety percent of her reasons, but she finds herself going along with his flight of fancy for a moment. "Us being married would be..." ...not very different from how they are now, really. "You don't want to marry me anyways, so the point's moot."

"I'm easy to convince."

Especially when Neuro getting angry enough to try to murder them in their sleep was a possibility. He tilts his head so it rests against hers, his hand leaving the mouse to gently trace a line from her chin to her mouth, "Besides, you didn't say you didn't want to just now."

"When you ask a girl to marry you, she shouldn't have to convince you," Yako sighs tiredly, willing down the blush that gentle, careless touch evoked. She succeeds, mostly, but has to turn her attention back to the screen if she wants to maintain that composure. "This isn't the sort of thing you just decide on a whim, Sai."

...ignoring the fact that their fellow celebrities seem to do exactly that quite frequently.

"Hm~"

The blush is all the convincing he needs as he wraps his arms around her shoulders with a quiet laugh, "Then, if I proposed properly...?"

She puffs her cheeks out in a pout and gives a token squirm of resistance. "...I don't like this game. You should go back to tearing up the competition with my knives." And not tempt her into saying things that could potentially ruin their dynamic.

"Unfortunately, I can't tear them up with your knives. That would be murder."

He gives her cheeks a poke, because murder would only help their competition. Not to mention how bad it would be for their cutesy image.

"And I happen to be having a lot of fun with this game."

"Oh, you know what I meant." She sticks her tongue out at him briefly, because it's impossible to live with Sai for any amount of time and not get infected with some of his immaturity. "And even if it's just a joke, marriage is...it's important, you know? It's not something I'd want to do just to make some fans freak out or incite Neuro to manslaughter."

He smiles at her, only partly joking as he asks, "Then what would I have to do to make you want to marry me?"

And help him incite Neuro to manslaughter.

Ask and mean it sincerely. she thinks, but knows better than to say. Directly telling him that she'd seriously consider it is not a wise move, in any playbook.

"Dunno. Convince me you'd actually be fun to have as a husband, I guess."

"Fun...? Hm."

Sai makes a big show of thinking about it, mimicking Yako's expression from earlier as he puffs out his cheeks when he finally asks, so very innocently, "And what exactly do you mean by fun, Yako-chan?"

He brushes the back of his fingers against her cheek, affectionately, as he smiles at her.

"Er."

Yako, for a long beat, knows exactly how an inexperienced gunman might feel after shooting themselves in the foot, before the pain hits. "Um...good at doing...married things...I guess?" It comes out cautious, as if she feels the words might spell her downfall if she's not careful.

Which they just might, honestly. But it's a little hard to think, with him draped over her and still finding new ways to invade her personal bubble.

"You've got to be more specific than that, Yako-chan. Because-"

He lets his fingers trail from her cheek to her neck, running his thumb along her collarbone.

"-'married things' could really be anything, couldn't it?"

A strangled, alarmed noise comes out of her throat, as if his fingers were wrapped firmly around it, instead of cupped tenderly. She might be less alarmed if he was trying to throttle her instead. He can feel the way her pulse is racing now, even as she tries to look calm and composed.

"R...Right. Um...well, I guess being in love is a big part of it..."

The sound brings a smile to his face as he presses a kiss against the side of her head,

"And you don't think I love you? You're hurting my feelings, Yako-chan."

She feels more and more out of her depth with the situation. She can count the number of times he's acted like this outside of the public eye on her hands and still have fingers left over.

"I said in love, not loving someone like a pet."

In his defense, he only ever acted like this towards her. (Probably because doing this to Neuro really would end in manslaughter.)

"Then tell me what you mean by 'being in love', Yako-chan."

"...wanting to be with somebody all the time, and being attracted to them. Being happy when they are, and upset when somebody else makes them unhappy. Being able to imagine yourself with them years down the line, happy. That sort of 'in love', Sai."

"If it's just that...then there's no problem, right?"

He hugs her with a laugh, "I want to be with you, and I find you attractive."

Finding her cute should count as finding her attractive, he adds to himself. More attractive than Eleven or Neuro or Sicks, at any rate.

"I don't like it when someone else makes you unhappy and with me by your side, I can imagine that we'd be together forever."

"...eh?"

It takes a few seconds before his words really sink in, and Yako is left blinking owlishly.

"Wh...then you..." Her hands slip up to cover her face as the blush erupts once more with a vengeance. "...if this is a joke, I really, really won't forgive you, Sai."

That coming from the person whose only objection to marrying him was that he didn't want to marry her? He doubted that.

He grins, looking happy and proud of himself as he gently pulls her hands away from her face to lean in till the tip of his nose brushes hers, "Give me some credit, Yako-chan. When have I ever lied to you? Hm?"

"Never," she acknowledges. Never to her at least, since there was little to no point. To everybody else? Flagrantly, shamelessly, and wildly.

She locks eyes with him hesitantly, and her lips curl into a giddy little grin even as her cheeks somehow manage to burn even hotter. "...yes."

He pulls back at her answer to pout, voice mock-serious, "I thought you wanted me to propose 'properly' first, Yako-chan."

Her jaw drops for a split second, before she shakes it off. This is Sai; even when he's serious there's always something he can't help but tweak or tug. "...then do it."
