He does hesitate, but she doesn't sound like her usual self, so he ends up turning back around and sliding into the seat beside her.

She smiled at him.

"You don't know how to play, right?" She can't imagine that he would.

"No."

It was frivolous, and he had never really had time in his life for frivolity.

"Then I'll teach you."

Notice how that wasn't phrased as a question.

She needed something to help drown out the sound of the rain.

He noticed.

"....Why?"

"Because guys who can play an instrument are sexy."

[thelongestword]

"....I don't care about that."

[17cubed]

She huffed a little.

"Can't you just humour Fujiko for a little while?"

[thelongestword]

".........Fine."

But only for her.

she leaned over to kiss him on the cheek. "Thank you."

He's thinking 'idiot'. But he doesn't actually say it out loud.

"Well?"

"First, hold your hands like this." And she demonstrates with her own.

Shirogane does as he's told, fingers curving against the keys like hers are.

She nodded when she was satisfied with how he was doing.

"Just like that. Now, I'll start by teaching you a basic scale." It was a good place to start, she thinks. Her instructions after that were simple and concise. She was a surprisingly good teacher given that she's never taught this before.

It doesn't take long for Shirogane to learn to play a simple C-scale (it was only all white keys, after all.)

"Now what."

"Now Fujiko will teach you how to play Chopin's Prelude in D flat Major."

She was joking.

"...Be serious."

"Sorry, sorry." She leans over to kiss him on the cheek. "It's just you're too much fun to tease so Fujiko couldn't help it."

Shirogane just sighs, almost used to this already.

"Then? What are you going to teach me?"

"Something simple, I guess?"

She laughs.

"It's been a while since Fujiko took lessons so I'm not sure!" It has been a while, after all. Ah, but if she doesn't think of something he's probably going to get up and leave...

He really does want to get up and leave. Instead, he crosses his arms and gives her an unimpressed look.

She could see his intentions clearly written on his face. Sometimes, he was just so transparent.

She smiled before placing her hands on the keys again and idly played the melody she was playing when he came in. The smile was different from her usual ones, more quiet and soft (and just a little bit lonely).

"Sorry, Fujiko just wanted to keep you for herself a little while longer."

He doesn't uncross his arms, and the unimpressed look is probably there to stay, but at least the reason why he's making that face are now different.

"You only have to ask, you idiot."

And he'd stay. He'd gripe and complain, but no matter what, he'd choose to stay. Every single time.

"...I know." She knew by now that he always would stay for her. Even if he seemed to love his work above all else she knows that, when push comes to shove, he would choose to be by her side.

On some days, it made her feel warm in a way she hadn't in years. On other days, it made her chest tighten because she knew what she was doing was selfish. Those belonging to the past had no right monopolizing the affections of someone in the present.

Most of the time, though, she was caught somewhere between the two but today it was definitely closer to the latter than the former.

She brushed off those feelings though and laughed.

"Fujiko also wanted to mess with you a little. Sorry."

Shirogane doesn't appreciate that laugh, "So are you going to teach me or not?"
