"Well, I came anyway." She continued pouting even as she flicked her wrist, attempting to take his hands off his keyboard with her psychokinesis, then flicking it again to spin his chair around.

Shirogane's just a Normal. He can't do anything against her when she does this. But he can glare at her, "Leave me alone."

"What's up with you all of a sudden?" Because even though Shirogane tended to be prickly, he wasn't normally this bad. She frowned, reaching out to put her hand on his forehead. "You're not sick are you?"

Heedless of the fact that she had psychometry and could read his thoughts with a touch, he swats her hand away.

Don't touch me if you're going to use that same hand to touch someone else.

She did actually plan to use psychometry. It was a lot more accurate than just checking temperature.

Whet she ended up reading surprised her.

She gaped at Shirogane, but she doesn't demand an explanation immediately. Years ago she might have, but those days were a lifetime ago now.

Instead, she balls her hands into fists and asks, "Shirogane...what's wrong?"

Shirogane takes a deep, steadying breath because he was going to be in control. This was going to be a calm, logical discussion and he wasn't losing his temper over something like this.

"Unlike you, I actually have serious things to do. I have work and I have research. I don't need to be thinking about who you are with, or what you're doing with them. If all you wanted was amusement, I'm sure you can find it elsewhere with other people. If..."

His voice sounds tense and too angry even to himself, but now that he's started it's difficult to stop, "If you have no real interest in me, then leave me alone."

"I already told you I'm not just playing around with you?" Fujiko was starting to get a little angry too. She thought they'd already gone over this...why was he bringing it up again?

There had to be something that happened, right? What was it he said? I don't need to be thinking about who you are with, or what you're doing with them....

...wait. It couldn't be that he was--

Yes, he was.

"Obviously your words were not to be trusted. Now leave."

He had honestly never thought that it would bother him. But then again, he had been naive enough to think that her interest in him was a constant. He hadn't even said anything when he saw her flirting with Doctor Sakaki. He had simply put down the paperwork and then left, telling himself that it didn't matter.

She hadn't expected this.

Fujiko wasn't surprised that he felt jealous. Jealousy was a natural thing, after all. What she hadn't expected was the form his jealousy took. This wasn't just Shirogane wanting all her affections to himself. He actually thought that she wasn't serious about the way she felt about him

"I told you I was serious and I am." She crossed her arms and glared at him. "I'm not sure what made you think otherwise but I only have eyes for you.

He crosses his arms as well, "And I don't believe you. Now leave."

She scowled. "No."

"Get. Out."

"I said I won't!" As if to make her point, she uncrossed her arms and closed the remaining space between them so that she was standing right in front of him. "I already told you: I'm not leaving."

"Is it really that much fun to get a rise out of me?! I've had enough of you, and I never want to see-"

He chokes on his next words, because he wants to say them. Some part of him wants her to get out and leave and never come back. Some part of him says 'good riddance'.

He doesn't finish his sentence, clenching his hands into fists as he looks away. Anywhere but at her.

There was a point right after all her comrades died, after she realized she and Hyoubu can only be enemies now, when Fujiko thought there was no way her heart could be hurt any more.

If he had finished that sentence she might just have lashed out in return. Age has tempered it, but Fujiko is a stubborn and short-tempered woman by nature and that was hard to shake off completely.

When he doesn't though and just looks away, Fujiko just feels a dull ache in her heart.

"Shirogane..." She leans over, putting her hands on his chair, both of them beside his head. "I've said it once and I'll say it however many times I need to: I'm not playing around."

"...don't believe you."

But his heart isn't in it. Because some part of him wants more than anything to believe in her.

"...how can I prove it to you?" Because, obviously, words hadn't been enough else they wouldn't be having this conversation.

He hadn't thought of it that far. And he really is at a loss as he tries to think of an answer to her question.

She sighed.

This...idiot.

(A small part of her though, still remembered what happened to the last people who had believed in her. Maybe he had the right idea here...)

"Shirogane, I can't know what's wrong unless you talk to me about the things that bother you."

He's silent for a long while, before he decides to try, his voice tentative,

"You...and Doctor Sakaki. What is your relationship?"

She waited as patiently as she could for him to speak. She couldn't help the surprise on her face at what he finally said.

"...there is no relationship. I'm sure if you talked to Sakaki about something like that he'd probably go looking for brain bleach." Pause. "Actually, I'm pretty sure just hinting at something like that would send him looking for it."

"Besides, Sakaki isn't my type."

"Then what were you two doing two weeks ago in his office?"

"Two...weeks ago?"

Honestly, Fujiko didn't really bother remembering most of the things she did at B.A.B.E.L. More importantly, this guy has been worried about this for two weeks and didn't bother saying anything about it.

"Could you give me a hint about what you mean?"

"You were hanging off of him. It looked like you were having fun."

Helpful, Shirogane.

"Um..." The truth of the matter was, while Fujiko didn't keep very good track of what she was up to at B.A.B.E.L. she put even less effort into remembering her visits to Sakaki's office.

Unless there was something serious anyway.

Though she supposed asking 'which time are you talking about?' might also be the wrong thing to say...

"Fujiko was probably just messing with him." Pause. "Not messing around with him, mind you, because even though Sakaki is a brilliant doctor, Fujiko has very little respect for him as a man."
