Oichi didn't really know how long she had lived here, and it never occurred to her to ask that question. Not when she had more pressing matters to attend to like who all those people around her were. And who she was. They had supplied her with answers, and with their company and she was thankful for it.

Hands of black smoke lift up handfuls of her long, black hair, brushing it very competently for something that you could actually see right through.

Her memory itself was fuzzy, and she had some disturbing blank spots here and there that gave her headaches when she tried to dwell on them, so she had simply let the people around her tell her what to do. Kill people? Kill lots of people? It made no difference to her. Even when blood splattered on her clothes, and on her face, she had simply thought, 'Ah.' and nothing more. It was surprisingly easy, killing people. That part of her memory didn't suffer from blank spots.

Even as she sat in the inner sanctum of the palace they had built for her, the screams in the distance only registered in her mind very dimly. With a quiet sigh, she slumps over and curls up on the floor, not caring about the state of her clothing as she shifts to rest her forehead against the cool, varnished wood floor.

To manipulate an esper was unforgivable. To manipulate an esper who didn't have the mental capacity to make decisions for herself was even more so.

Hyoubu took no pleasure in killing the scum in this place. He didn't even care enough about these insects who had seen an esper woman as nothing but a tool to be used, to take pleasure in their deaths.

He simply killed them.

Hyoubu stopped for a moment, listening as Yoh's voice sounded like it was coming from right beside him (when, in fact, he knew that Yoh was actually at the other side of this facility.)

Momotarou glided over and landed on his shoulder.

"It looks like things are going well over on their side too."

"Ah." Well, it was to be expected, right? Because the senior members of PANDRA were strong. He turned to give the flying squirrel a sidelong glance as he reached out with his mind to crush another man's skull. "Have you found her?" They hadn't been able to find her exact location yet, only narrowed down the part of the building she was in.

"Of course! She's in the last room at the end of that hallway."

He nodded and without another word, teleported to said hallway and then again into the room.

He was surprised that there were no ECMs in here. He would have been able to tell if there were. He walked over, stopping when he was about a foot away from her.

"So you are the Demon Queen."

Oichi doesn't raise her head, content in her self-made nest of silk kimono. The hands though, are an entirely different story. Her hair slips from between the smoky fingers as they rise up, defensive. Her gaze slides from the floor she had been staring at to look at his shoes and her voice is distracted as she replies, "Demon Queen...yes...Ichi...Ichi is the Demon Queen...."

She could smell iron-sharp scent of blood on him. Whose....?

Momotarou arched his back. "Watch out, Kyousuke!"

Hyoubu, on the other hand looked completely unbothered as he approached her without hesitation, his posture relaxed. However, appearances can be misleading. Despite how he looked he was prepared to react no matter what the hands did.

In the meantime, he communicated with Momotarou through telepathy, telling him to go guard the door.

Momotarou looked uncertain but lifted off from his perch on Hyoubu's shoulder and, with one last glance backwards, left.

"I've been looking forward to meeting you, Ichi."

The hands froze at that question, but didn't disappear. Oichi lets her eyes wander from his shoes to his knees, "Why...?"

"Why not?" He crouches down though if she didn't look up at all she probably still wouldn't be looking at his face. If she looked though, she would see that he was smiling, "it's natural to want to learn more about someone you've heard a lot about, right?"

[higannobana]

The smile is what cinches it. No one that smiled at her could be a bad person.

The hands dissipate as she fixes her eyes on his face, "You've heard....a lot...about Ichi...?"

"Yes." Very little of it had been good, however. "But you're a little different than I imagined."

[higannobana]

She tilts her head to one side and her hair falls over her neck.

"Different....why...?"

[atleast80]

"Well, I have to say you're prettier in person, for one." He crouched down in front of her. "Hey...Oichi, was it? Do you like it here?"

[higannobana]

Flattery won't get Hyoubu anywhere. It wouldn't have gotten him anywhere even back before this had happened. Oichi had never been someone who took much stock in sweet words. With her family's position, there was no end to people who could give her that.

She does take a moment to think about his question though. But the answer isn't a difficult one. She wasn't alone. People needed her there.

"Everyone...is kind to Ichi. So Ichi likes it here..."

They're using you.

But Hyoubu stamped that angry thought out. Now wasn't the time.

"But they left you in this room all by yourself. Aren't you lonely?"

[higannobana]

Even if she was being used, that didn't matter to Oichi at all. Even if they were just using her, as long as they needed her, she was fine. She just didn't want to be left alone.

Not again.

"Ichi...is a little lonely. But Ichi promised to stay here. So Ichi...will endure it."

[atleast80]

"What if I told you there was a place you can go where you'll never be lonely again?"

[higannobana]

That gets her attention. She sits up slowly, a tiny smoky hand rising from the shadows on the ground to brush a stray strand of her hair out of her face. Her expression is one of trust and hope, "....Really?"

[atleast80]

"Really." He reached out to place a hand on her head. "There are lots of people where I live and we're all one big family. It's a place where you will never be left to sit alone in a dark room ever again."

[higannobana]

Oichi likes the sound of that. And she is just about to get up and go with him, when a shift of her leg results in a clanking sound. She immediately stops because she remembered the "promise".

It had been a way of ensuring she didn't leave on her own. The chain which everyone reminded her of every time they left her on her own. 'Remember. As long as you have that, you're not allowed to leave. If you leave, you'll be punished. No one loves someone that breaks a promise.'

She tucks her leg back under her with a rustle of metal being dragged over a wooden floor.

"....Ichi...can't."

The sight of that chain was almost enough to make him leave the room and kill every last one of those bastards painfully and with great prejudice.

Hyoubu couldn't though. Out of all of P.A.N.D.R.A. he was the only one powerful enough to restrain her if it came to it. That's why he'd sent Magi and the others to take care of everyone else.

"Why not?"

[higannobana]

"Because Ichi made a promise."

And it had been a pinky promise.

"If Ichi lets the chain break, then bad things will happen..."

[atleast80]

"Ah, is that all?" He smiled at her. "You don't have to worry about that! They said that I can take you away so you're not bound by the promise you made them any more."

Hyoubu was an incredibly convincing liar when he needed to be.

[higannobana]

"So...even if the chain is broken, Ichi won't be abandoned...? Ichi won't be left all alone...?"

He didn't need to be convincing with someone who believed everything she was told.

[atleast80]

"Never." He reached out to place a hand on her cheek. "You will never be alone ever again, I promise."

[higannobana]

"Pinky promise?"

She holds up one hand to him, pinky finger extended.

He stares for a moment before letting out a short 'hn' that might have been a laugh. He brings his hand up and linked his pinky with hers.

"Pinky promise."
