"You never told me there was a time limit."

Because he definitely would have been on-time then. He lingers by the door, still not certain what he should do.

"You should know better than to keep a lady waiting." She said with a huff. She could tell from his face though, that he probably had no idea where to proceed from here.

He really was...such an idiot.

She swung her legs over the side of the bed.

"Well? Are you going to come over?" Her voice was teasing, but there was a challenge there too. "Or do you plan to stand at the doorway forever?"

He gives her a frown at that statement. Don't expect a quasi-immortal who has no experience pandering to other people to know something like that.

"I'll remember that for next time."

He does make his way over though, sitting on the bed beside her.

...and he would remember, wouldn't he? That's the kind of person he was. He would probably even be able to quote her if she asked.

She laughed a little in response, turning so she could wrap her arms loosely around his shoulders.

That's asking for too much. He could summarize, but quoting would be difficult.

Okay, now he really is at a loss. WHAT DO. But...he seemed to remember her saying that embraces should be returned, so he slides his arms around her waist. Okay, now: WHAT DO.

As much as she liked picking on every now and then, she knew he really was trying. The arms around her waist were proof enough of that.

She leaned up to nuzzle his jaw, laughing quietly against his skin. "Have I told you I love you?"

"Yes."

Just yesterday, actually. He wasn't sure if the nuzzle should be returned though.

"Mm." The nuzzle turned into a quick kiss on his jaw. "Well, Fujiko loves you. Very, very much." Because she can never say it too many times.

She drew lazy circles on his shoulder with a finger. "Don't think about it too much. Just do what feels right." Because she knows he's probably over-thinking things...again.

And no matter how many times she says it, he's still not really sure how to respond. In the beginning, there was no doubt that he didn't want her there. She was loud, and she was demanding, and he was uncomfortable whenever she was involved. He wasn't even sure when that had begun changing. When he had started looking for her if she wasn't there, and wanting to be by her side. When the 'thank god she's not here' had turned into an irritating worry over what could have happened to her.

Because as he spent more and more time with her, despite her faults, she had somehow endeared herself to him. He couldn't say if he loved her, but he knew without a doubt that he couldn't see his life without her in it.

So he leans down, tilting his head as he catches her lips with his own, hoping that this was what she meant when she said to do what felt right. And hoping that if it wasn't that he hadn't botched it up too badly.

When he kissed her, she made an appreciative hum at the back of her throat. She angled her head to deepen the kiss, though it was chaste compared to the one they shared before. He was a little slow, after all.

Without breaking the kiss, she shifted to sit side-ways on his lap.

Shirogane may be slow (very slow, okay, be quiet), but at least he was learning. If he really, really were made to admit it, he didn't dislike being with her, holding her close, kissing her. Sure, he'd probably still choose work if given the choice but today...

Today, at this very moment, he had chosen to stay with her. One hand at her waist strays unconsciously to brush against bare skin as he pulls her closer.

Fujiko was glad that she had chosen this short with its flared hem. She rather liked the way his fingers brushed against her skin.

It was much easier to kiss him from this angle, she decided as her hands came up to tangle in his hair.

He does pull away from the kiss eventually and maybe a bit reluctantly (although his hand stays where it is on her waist), breathing ragged and hair a mess. He doesn't pull away very far though, and his fingers are absentmindedly rubbing gentle circles against her skin as he weighs his options.

Technically...tomorrow was his day off. Just because he had never taken it, didn't mean that it wasn't his day off still. But he had never actually taken a day off before. And he wasn't sure if he could handle spending tomorrow with her as well.

Shirogane had what Fujiko called his Brooding Face on. It was not exactly an expression she wanted to see when they were supposed to be making out.

She leaned forward again, this time to press a kiss against his neck, deciding that the best way to deal with this was to convince him that what they were doing was infinitely more interesting than whatever was going through his head right now.

Shirogane sighs, not particularly pleased that she was trying to distract him. The hand not resting against her skin, reaches for her hand, lacing their fingers together.

She's a psychometer, he knows that she can read him like this. So he sends her the thought that he had originally been thinking of taking the day off tomorrow as well and spending the night here. But now, he was seriously reconsidering it.

She did pause when he took her hand in his. When he did that it was because there was something he wanted her to know without him having to say anything. Finally, she sighed.

Really, he was completely hopeless.

She was tempted to give him until the count of ten to decide, but that might actually make things worse.

So she just huffed a little and settled herself more comfortably against him.

At least she wasn't bothering him now. But at the same time, a thought occurs to him...

If he told her now that he wasn't staying tomorrow...what was the possibility that she'd just show up at his house now that she knew he had the day off...

He sighs.

The department could probably manage without him for the rest of today and tomorrow. They'd know where to find him if they needed him. (Because he'd started to spend an increasing amount of time with the director lately....He was going to fix that after the next two days. He was probably neglecting his work.)

"....I'm staying the night."

Why did this guy think so loudly? If Fujiko had let go of his hand and avoided touching him while he thought she could have avoided finding out why he was staying. (She rather liked the way it felt to have their fingers laced like this, though...)

She'll just pretend that she didn't know. It was better that way.

"Good." She said, before leaning over to nip at his neck, hard enough to leave a mark (just in case he started thinking about backing out).

He can't help if he has loud thoughts and he definitely won't back out once he's decided.

His breath catches in his throat when she nips at his neck, and the hand holding hers tightens unconsciously. The other hand snakes further up past the flared hem of her shirt to press fully against the smooth skin of her back as he responds with a kiss against the shell of her ear.

She shivered at the kiss on her ear and at the feel of his breath there. Her hand, the one not entwined with his drew lazy circles on his nape before dipping lower to stroke at the skin under his collar.

"It's not fair." She whined. "You have much better access than Fujiko does."

He presses a line of kisses against her jaw before he frowns and pulls back,

"...What are you talking about?"

"This." To demonstrate, she pulled her hand back, finger tips brushing along the skin under his collar until they were resting lightly at the spot between his collar bones. She pouted at him.

"You wear way too much."

Shirogane looks back at her, unfazed by the pouting, "Isn't this what I wear normally?"

He likes his button-up shirts, okay.

She huffs. "That just means you always wear too much." She leans up to press a kiss to the corner of his mouth. "But I guess it's a good thing that you wear buttons all the time."

"......Why is it a good thing?"

And more importantly, is he going to regret asking this question?
