Which is a joke, of course.

That was a pretty good idea, actually.

After coming to that conclusion, Ryuuki reached out to pull her against him.

"...okay."

Shiho doesn't have time to react before she's pulled against Ryuuki because she hadn't expected there to be anything to react to.

She's really conflicted about this. On the one hand, her mind is screaming obscenities at her and telling her what a bad idea making a joke like that was and that she should have known.

On the other hand, she has to admit that she does feel warm. Although she's not sure if that's because she had the right idea with her joke or if it's because they're way too close.

She kind of wishes there was somewhere to hide. But there isn't.

She settles for staying as still as possible because what is breathing.

Ryuuki is careful to make sure she'd be comfortable and that he wasn't holding her too hard or anything like that. This was at least one thing, besides mopping decks and floors (he was ecstatic that the two worked pretty much the same), that he was good at.)

Though when she stopped moving altogether, Ryuuki has to wonder if he wasn't out of practice. He pulls back a little and looks at her quizzically. "Shiho?"

"Th-That...That was..."

Shiho wants to say that it was a joke. But if she said it as a joke, that idiot Ryuuki would probably take it seriously and she would likely never get anywhere ever again. WHY WAS THIS DIFFICULT?!

So she settles for a neutral response. Or as neutral a response she can give to someone she's liked for so long. Ignore the stuttering.

"That's...what...You...I..."

Ryuuki frowned. He was getting a little worried now. Maybe she was sick?

Without hesitating, he reached up to brush her bangs from her forehead before leaning in to press his forehead against hers.

"Shiho...you're not sick, are you?" Well, he doesn't feel a fever...

She feels like somehow this must be karma accumulated from a past life. Probably one where she was a super-naturally powered user and played around with the feelings of boys.

"No!"

That came out a bit more forcefully than she had intended.

He backed away a step at that, eyes wide and panicked.

"S-sorry! Did I do something wrong?"

Why wasn't there a hole for her to hide in.

"N-No..that's not it. I..."

She decides to just sit on the small bench in the pavilion and bury her head in her hands.

He watches her for a second, without a single inkling of what he should do.

He really messed up this time, didn't he?

After a beat he moved to stand in front of her. Ryuuki reached out to place a hand on her head but hesitated then let his hand drop.

"...Shiho?"

Shiho looks up at the sound of her name, and when she sees his face, she is the one to reach out for his hand, "No...that's not what I meant. I...I..."

She held onto his hand tightly, "I...I...I didn't dislike it...or anything..."

Ack. Nothing was coming out right. But she wants him to understand. She had just been embarrassed.

"...are you sure?"

She nods, "Yes. It isn't Ryuuki's fault! I just. It's..."

She ducks her head, but doesn't let go of his hand, "embarrassing..."

"Embarrassing? Why would it be embarrassing?"

"Because..I think I really like you.

"I'm sorry. I didn't catch that."

She buries her head in her hands, "....Like you."

He still can't really hear her even though he strained to.

"Um...you," he was flailing internally, "you...pike me?"

She stands up and grabs his shirt, face feeling like it's on fire and maybe shouting just a little.

"Are you doing this on purpose?! Like! Like! Who's going to pike someone, you idiot!"

"Like?"

He repeats that word as if it were in a foreign language that he doesn't really understand.

Then it's like a light-bulb goes off in his head and he suddenly gets it.

"You mean...!"

Sorry, she's not done ranting. And now she's shaking him back and forth.

"You idiot! Super idiot! I don't even know why I like you! Honestly! You're not even listening, you...you!"

"I am listening!" But the shaking made his words come out a little jumbled.

"Sh-Shiho! Stop shaking me!"

Shiho stops shaking him kind of abruptly.

"Eh? What? I. I mean. Good!"

She's leaving now, who even cares if it's raining?! She just confessed and now she's going to go hide in her room behind the iron defense that was her dad.

OHGODTHISWASEMBARRASSING.

...wait. Was she turning to leave!?

He reached out on an impulse and pulled her against his chest.

"Wait, Shiho!"

And of course, she struggles, trying to tell herself that she wanted to leave and that he wasn't warm at all.

"I...! You! What do you think you're doing, idiot?!"
