"...Ichi has seen...those little black...monsters..."

Because she counted them as 'anyone'. Even though they didn't talk, and scratched when she tried to get near them.

"...I don't think they really count."

Really, this woman was so strange. She smoothed a hand absent-mindedly over one of her skirts.

"I wonder how much longer we'll be stuck here?"

She didn't think it was that strange. They were kind of cute, in a scratchy kind of way.

But their cuteness didn't stop black hands from coming out of nowhere and viciously killing them.

Oichi looks up at the sky, "Ichi...doesn't know...Maybe...forever?"

"No. Not forever." She promised she'd go back for them. She promised. No matter how hopeless things were, all she had to do was remember her friends and she would find the strength to go on.

She can't let her thoughts go down the path they nearly did. She had to have hope.

Aqua turned to Oichi, placing on of her hands over hers. "Whatever happens, I'll get us both out of here. I promise."

Oichi looks down when she feels Aqua holding her hands, and is silent for a very long time before she nods,

"...Nn."

Aqua wasn't sure if Oichi believed her or not. All the same, she won't fail to protect her.

"Ichi, do you want to hear a story?" Since they have time to kill anyway. Besides, Oichi seemed to like being told stories.

She believed. Because Oichi always believed what she was told. At the mention of a story though, she immediately looks up, eyes wide and interested.

"Yes."

"Is there any one you'd like to hear?"

One with a happy ending.

Oichi shakes her head, "No. Anything....is fine..."

Anything...

Aqua herself preferred stories with happy endings. She had been that way since she was little and never really grew out of it.

"Once upon a time," She began. "There were three friends who lived in a land full of water and mountains and Light. The oldest was a boy who was strong and steady as the earth. The second oldest was a girl. The youngest of the three was cheerful and warm like a summer breeze. The three of them lived together with their mentor who was stern and cared about them very much even if he didn't always show it. They trained hard together everyday, working towards a dream the three of them shared: to become strong enough to protect others."

It was an edited version of a familiar story, without Keyblades or Keyblade Masters because those she could not so freely talk about.

"They worked hard together and never lost sight of their dream or their friendship...then one day, their mentor decided that the eldest boy and girl were ready to take an important exam."

Oichi listened to the story with all of her attention. Which wasn't hard for her to do. She tended to fluctuate being not paying any attention at all and focusing on one thing with a worrying intensity.

"To protect...others..."

She paused, smile (a little sadly) before brushing Oichi's bangs away from her face with a hand, the gesture gentle.

"To protect others and their Light from the Darkness." Her smile fell a little, "But when the exam was finished, their Master said that the boy wasn't ready yet, that he was in danger of falling prey to the very Darkness they were supposed to fight."

"There was worse news to come, however. After their exam both the boy and the girl were sent out to fight monsters that had been showing up all over the place and threatening the balance of the worlds. The last boy, the youngest boy, he was supposed to stay back but for some reason he left as well."

"Seeing that, the Master, out of concern, gave the girl two tasks in addition to her original task: bring the youngest boy home, and to watch the other boy, in case he fell to the Darkness."

"Darkness..."

Oichi draws her knees up closer to her chest, as she frowns down at a rock by her foot.

She went on to talk about what happened afterwards.

Their argument. The existence of a "dark boy". And finally, Terra's fall and their last fight.

"So the girl, at the last moment, sent the her friend back into the light at the cost of falling into the Darkness." She smiled sadly at Oichi, brushing a hand over her hair.

"But she eventually makes it outside and she is reunited with her friends and they live happily ever after."

Oichi leans into Aqua's touch, letting her eyes drift closed as she imagines the happy ending. It was nice to think of.

If only things like that happened in real life too.

"It...must be nice....happily...ever after..."

It makes her heart ache to here Oichi say that. Somehow this woman had ended up here and she had been wondering all alone...but certainly there had to be someone waiting for her, right?

"...would you like to be a part of it? The ending...the happily ever after."

That was impossible. But Oichi smiles because that thought never occurs to her, and she is willing to put all her trust in Aqua.

"Can Ichi...really be part of it?"

"Of course." Aqua said it with an unshakable certainty. She took Oichi's hands in her own. "I'll bring you back into the Light and then...and then if you have nowhere else you can stay with us."

Aqua squeezed her hands gently and smiled. "You'll love it there. It's really beautiful."

Just that sentiment alone, is enough. Even if Aqua isn't able to follow through with it, the fact that this girl in front of her was willing and had offered, would have been good enough.

"Thank you...Ichi...is happy."

"I'm glad." Aqua hesitated for a moment before leaning over to press a quick kiss to the top of her head. Then she stood up.

"...we should get moving again."
