"Pass. I don't want to get up. You're closer. Are you really going to let me wither and die from starvation over here? I know your heart is much larger than that and your compassion knows no bounds. Aneue would want you to take care of me now that she's no longer with us..."

He hung his head in momentary silence, as though observing mourning.

She almost told him that if he was so lazy he'd rather let himself starve then she wasn't going to stop him.

Eve did like Mitsuba though.

"Don't bring her into this." Her expression was as flat as ever, but she did close her book after marking her page. Damn it.

Sougo put on his most stricken expression, turning away from Eve even further.

"You expect me to just forget?"

"You know that's not what I meant." Or did he? Honestly, she wasn't always the best at being able to tell. It was even harder when it was Sougo. What a troublesome guy...

"What did you want to eat?"

Operation play on emotions = success!

Sougo perked up immediately after she asked the question, "Soba." A grin broke on his face as he turned to her. "You're the best, Eve."

Eve gave him the flattest look she could manage (and she was incredibly good at those). She still headed for the kitchen though.

"What did you want in it? And don't ask for anything we don't have."

He shook his head, "I'm not picky. Whatever you wanna put in it. Just make sure to add some extra spice..."

The smile on his face softened, becoming a little distant and a little fond. "For aneue."

And then this suddenly became an SC AU, I guess...

Honestly, Eve felt like she was always stuck halfway between wanting to hit him and wanting to hug him.

"...I only know how to make dumplings." Fortunately, they were the dumplings she had originally been taught to make instead of Keroro's chocolate-spinach dumplings.

hahaha I kind of assumed it was!

"Dumplings are good!"

Sougo finally got up from his spot so he could trail after her and just watch her cook. You know, kind of like that dog that watched for table scraps.

Then dumplings it was.

She was pointedly not looking at him (because she has a feeling she knows what kind of expression he was making and she wanted to hang onto the feeling of wanting to hit him a little longer.)

There was a stool in the kitchen because, sadly, the woman she was cloned from wasn't that tall so from the get-go Eve's chances of getting very tall were pretty much non-existent.

As she grabbed the bowl and everything else she needed from the higher shelves, she told Sougo:

"The flour is in the bottom cupbaord. Get it out for me."

"Oi. I didn't come in here just to be ordered around," But even though Sougo was complaining, he did open up the cupboard and withdraw the flour.

He put it next to her other collection of ingredients before getting out of the way. A man's place wasn't really in the kitchen, except there were many times when Sougo would help out as a kid. While he wanted to maintain his sadistic girls should wait on guys hand and foot rule, he felt a little antsy.

So he approached again, "Anything you want me to do?"

At some point Eve reached up to pull her hair back into a pony tail to keep it out of her face.

Now if only Sogou would get out of her hair.

She looked at him out of the corner of her eye before turning back to the dough she was working with.

"Fill one of the pots with water. I need to blanch the watercress after."

And he did so, though with less enthusiasm than he had in his childhood. (Look, aneue! I did it! -- he would say as water sloshed all over the side of the pot he was eagerly showing off.) For now he was just quietly assisting.

"Need anything cut up in the meantime?" He was good with blades and carving.

Eve paused what she was doing and just stared at him for a moment, before she just shook her head in the end. She was always horrible at reading him at the best of time. It was better not to try too hard most of the time.

"You can cut the shrimp up."

As she says this she begins to knead the dough.

"Okay," and so Sougo got one of the knives and began to slice them up some shrimp. "Am I cutting it in little pieces or just in half?"

It was a good thing she couldn't read him because he was pretty bad at reading people himself. So it made him comfortable around her -- even though he was annoying and aggravating at times, there were also times when he wasn't so much. Like now. And maybe in time, he and Eve would learn how to be normal humans. But that took one step at a time -- and cooking together seemed to be as decent of a step as any.

"Little pieces."

In the storybooks Eve read when Sven first took her in love always began at first sight and ended in happily ever after. Everything is beautiful and perfect and not at all like what they had.

She was certain Cinderella never got so annoyed with her prince that she wanted to throw him out of the apartment.

But even on those days when he annoyed her to no end, at the end of the day she still stays. She's not entirely sure what a happily ever after is supposed to entail, except that she's pretty sure she wouldn't trade this moment for one of those.

She rolls out the dough, as thin as she could manage before cutting round shapes out of it.
