Shirogane was spending a peaceful winter's day at the Aria Company's headquarters overlooking the sea with his computer balanced on his legs. It had been three months since Shirogane had moved to Aqua, and nine months since he had met Akari.

And he now had a dilemma. (Part of that dilemma was how to send that bastard Kou to Pluto.)

But the actually important part of it, was that there were no books available from any human publisher on the subject of kissing available in Aqua. None. He knew this, because he had gone (very logically) to ask for them.

For the reason for that though, we'd have to trace the story back to two months since he'd moved to Aqua, and eight since he'd met Akari. Another company conference meeting on the computer had ended (disastrously, in his opinion) with a casual question from Homurabi. It had started with an innocent enough remark, "I heard from Ryuuko that you're romantically involved with an Undine on Aqua, and have been for nine months, huh. Kissed her yet?"

That was, of course, none of Homurabi's business, and Shirogane had told him so. But Homurabi's (flippant, damn him) reply was "But it's kind of...expected."

On any other subject, Shirogane would probably have ignored him. But even though it pained him to admit, he knew that Homurabi and Shisui were both better at this whole relationships with actual people thing. It was why Shirogane and Ryuuko had taken them on into the company in the first place.

So like a normal, romantically-involved person, he had gone to the library to look up information on kissing and was then told they had none. The logical second choice was to ask an idiot with experience being romantically involved: Kou. That had ended with Kou falling off his chair on the other side of the computer screen and rolling on the ground. Still laughing.

Keroro doesn't move after the first prod. Or the second.

But then he suddenly sits up and looks around, "Eh? Where am I? What's poking..."

He turns around to see a katana.

Making up all the things! o/

There were emotions that you would see on Shirogane's face, and then again, there were emotions you never saw on his face ever.

One of these was smiling. The other was surprise. And that's what he's showing on his face when he turns around at that familiar voice to see blue eyes and pink hair that had grown longer in the five Aqua months he had been away.

"Akari?"

He does succeed in stopping her from circling because she wouldn't duck under his arm while it was in her way. Instead, she tilts her head to regard the hand that seems to her to almost have just sprouted from the tree before she lets her fingers trail up the bark and over the bandage. It said a lot about her, that her mind mostly glossed over the blood as her eyes followed the hand planted in front of her all the way up to a stranger with a pair of mismatched eyes, staring into her own mild black ones.

Tree now long forgotten, her hand comes up to brush against his cheek. Not to see if he was real, of course. Her mind had long since stopped bothering about the distinction between what was real and what wasn't. She only wanted to touch him.

"Fun...? Hm."

Sai makes a big show of thinking about it, mimicking Yako's expression from earlier as he puffs out his cheeks when he finally asks, so very innocently, "And what exactly do you mean by fun, Yako-chan?"

He brushes the back of his fingers against her cheek, affectionately, as he smiles at her.

"Er."

Yako, for a long beat, knows exactly how an inexperienced gunman might feel after shooting themselves in the foot, before the pain hits. "Um...good at doing...married things...I guess?" It comes out cautious, as if she feels the words might spell her downfall if she's not careful.

Which they just might, honestly. But it's a little hard to think, with him draped over her and still finding new ways to invade her personal bubble.

Considering his height compared to her, ducking under his arm would have been a considerable achievement, though he did manage to reach up to her eye level at least.

Once he catches her eyes he's determined to not let them go, not even once to look her over or size her up. His other hand, just as bandaged and bloodied as the other, comes up and places itself upon hers against his cheek. He understands that what he has on his hands is a broken psyche, but he has yet to determine to what extent, or if it can even be fixed. But he'll act as if it can be until absolutely proven so.

"It is you..." She sounds awed, as if she hasn't expected it to be him (and yet she still hadn't hesitated to grab hold of his sleeve, to call out his name). Even now it still seemed a little unreal. He was supposed to be on Man-home, right?

She blinked, her grip of his sleeve tightening minutely. "You're really here."

On her end, Aika had asked her something similar (Alice couldn't match their time off this time, which was too bad, really. Akari feels like it's always better when all three of them are together).

"Kissing is a natural part of dating someone!"

"Hohe? Does that mean Aika-chan and Al-kun have--"

And, of course, changing subjects was prohibited even though Akari hadn't really been trying to change e subject at all. She hadn't even thought too much about it until afterwards. Kissing, huh...

She came into the sitting room Shirogane was with a tea and Aria-shachou on her heels.

"Sorry to keep you waiting." She said with a smile as she set the tray on the table before pouring tea for them both.

"You've got to be more specific than that, Yako-chan. Because-"

He lets his fingers trail from her cheek to her neck, running his thumb along her collarbone.

"-'married things' could really be anything, couldn't it?"

...ah. Did she just make things worse?

"I know." She wanted to sound apologetic and suitably serious about it, honest. But right now...right now she was so filled with so many emotions that she couldn't possibly act somber. "I really am sorry though. Something came up earlier and I didn't have the time to contact you."

"Your final exam. Right?"

He doesn't uncross his arms as he looks down at her though, but at least he's stopped frowning, "You could have contacted me before."

A strangled, alarmed noise comes out of her throat, as if his fingers were wrapped firmly around it, instead of cupped tenderly. She might be less alarmed if he was trying to throttle her instead. He can feel the way her pulse is racing now, even as she tries to look calm and composed.

"R...Right. Um...well, I guess being in love is a big part of it..."

He saw her freeze and it brought a sad edge to his smile.

Something like a happy ending was something he could never have. There was no happily ever after for a person like him. It had been impossible since the day his Commander put a bullet through his head. That was why he wanted to give the espers under his protection a different future. He wanted them to be able to walk in the light and smile and laugh and live.

The hand moved from the top of her head to cup her cheek, stroking her cheek with his thumb. "I'm not here to hurt you."

"Mm."

He doesn't look up from his computer as he scrolls through the information. He still wasn't used to the single screen of his laptop versus the multiple screen-less floating windows of back home, and he's constantly flicking back and forth through Dear Abby-type romance columns and freight-shipping to Pluto as well as work e-mails.

Aria-shachou though, came right up to him and plopped himself beside Shirogane, head resting on the crook of Shirogane's arm as he peers at the screen with what Shirogane thought of as his 'blank look'. He still couldn't quite come to terms with the fact that apparently cats here were bred to be extremely intelligent. He absent-mindedly rubs at Aria-shachou's head before pushing it off his arm.

And now the confusion had passed, and his expression is his normal dead-pan one again. It wasn't like he hadn't expected to see her there. After all, she worked in Neo-Venezia where he was going. It wasn't huge like a planet was. It was just a city. It wasn't such a huge stretch of the imagination to see her in his mind's eye, smiling at him when he steps onto the space port.

He does glance down at the hand on his sleeve though, remembering back to all those months ago when she'd first become a Prima.

"Of course."

The sound brings a smile to his face as he presses a kiss against the side of her head,

"And you don't think I love you? You're hurting my feelings, Yako-chan."

He fully intended to fulfill her conditions. And without even an ounce of suspicion, he says, "What conditions?"

She feels more and more out of her depth with the situation. She can count the number of times he's acted like this outside of the public eye on her hands and still have fingers left over.

"I said in love, not loving someone like a pet."

He comes back after a short while with tea (because soup took time, and he was certain that something hot could only benefit her).

"Here. Ginger tea."

From the very start Aria-shachou hadn't been afraid of Shirogane. If asked, Akari would cite that as proof of Aria-shachou's intelligence.

She laughed a little as she set Shirogane's cup of tea in front of him. "Aria-shachou really likes Shirogane, doesn't he?"

Aria-shachou, who had flopped onto his back when Shirogane pushed him sat back up with a cheerful, 'puinya' as if responding to Akari before attempting to burrow under Shirogane's arm. Because clearly that is the best idea when one is a really plump cat.

"I was just thinking about you earlier." It didn't occur to her to let go, not yet at least. She laughed, "Isn't that funny? It's like something inside of me knew you would be here today and it couldn't wait to meet you again."

She stared for a moment.

"How did you know about that?" She hadn't even told Aika-chan or Alice-chan yet. The only people who knew were her and Alicia-san. "I didn't even know until late last night that my exam would be today."

When she was finished changing, she went to the washroom to leave her clothes in the hamper there. Shirogane came back to the room just when she came out of there.

She moved over to take the tea from him, "...thank you." She couldn't really remember the last time someone did something like this for her.

"You don't have to do this. I'm sure I'll be fine after a good night's rest."
