It was at Fujiko's urging, actually, that Oichi was standing outside of Kyousuke's door. There had even been some fussing before she had been sent out, Fujiko brushing her black hair behind her ears and giving the back of her light sleeping clothes a little tug so that it would show more of her neck.

Oichi wasn't really sure why exactly she had to go to Kyousuke's room with a lacquer comb, but she had obediently gone anyway. And it was kind of cold...

"It's Ichi."

Ichi?

He blinked, surprised. The last two strides to the door were wider, more hurried as he pulled the door open.

Ah. What was she doing here?

He stared for a moment before reaching out to straighten her clothes, pulling it so it covered her neck properly. If he had been given time to think about it, he might have realized and blushed, but as it was, he was only fussing over her as usual.

"Oichi-dono, you'll catch a chill if you walk around dressed like that." Then he smiled. "Are you lost?"

"....no."

She's still holding tightly onto the comb, looking down at the ground, unsure of what to do.

[unscarred]

"...okay?"

He wasn't sure what she was doing here then, but didn't ask because he didn't want her to think he wanted her gone or anything like that.

He blinked then stepped aside to let her in.

"Please come in, Oichi-dono." If they talked like this, she'll get cold. They can figure out what's going on when she was safe and warm inside.

As far as she was concerned, this was a success? All she really wanted was Kyousuke's company, and she had it now.

Brightening up, she enters the room, still holding onto the comb. Oh. Right.

"Kyousuke."

He slides the shoji closed behind her, leaving it open partway so anyone passing by could see that there was nothing improper going on.

Then he turns to look back at her.

"Yes? What is it?"

[higannobana]

"Ichi wants to sleep here."

[unscarred]

"Oh. Is that all? That's fi--" He was actually heading back towards the low table when he stopped suddenly. Then he slowly turned around to look at her again. "Wait. What!?"

[higannobana]

She repeats, slightly slower, "Ichi....wants to sleep...here."

[unscarred]

"...is there something wrong with your room?"

[higannobana]

She grabs hold of his sleeve, tilting her head to look into his eyes, ".....Please?"

[unscarred]

"Um."

He takes a half step back because why is she so cute!?

"Oichi-dono, that--that's not really proper. If there's a problem with your room I can find someone to fix it. O-or you can stay with Fujiko-san."

[higannobana]

Oichi follows, still not letting go, "It's....improper....Why?"

[unscarred]

"B-because...well. I'm a man," Okay, so technically he was still barely past the age where he'd be called a boy, still! "And you're a woman and we're...we're not married. That's why."

[higannobana]

"But Ichi wants to stay."

And with that, she grabs onto his other sleeve with her free hand.

"Kyousuke, please let Ichi stay. Ichi wants to stay."

[unscarred]

"Uh..."

This was totally unfair. Totally and completely unfair. Instinctively he tries to jerk his arm back when she grabs it but stops just short of pulling out of her grip. It seemed like a cruel thing to do.

"I..." He sighed and then smiled at her fondly. "All right. You can stay." And then when she's asleep maybe he'll carry her back to her own room.

[higannobana]

Her eyes light up at that and there's only a moment's hesitation before she leans her forehead against his with a smile, "Kyousuke."

"Kyousuke, thank you."

She pulls back, "Ichi...Ichi is happy."

[unscarred]

He blushes but smiles back at her, tilting his head so their noses brushed.

"...you're welcome." He said, then pulled his sleeve out of her grip so he could hold onto her hand properly. "I'm glad you're happy."

[higannobana]

Now that was settled, Oichi remembers the comb still in her hand and holds it out, "Will Kyousuke comb Ichi's hair?"

[unscarred]

He blinks, surprised by the request but then laughs softly.

"All right. We can do it in the gardens."

[higannobana]

Her smile is bright, as she waits for him to lead the way to the gardens.

He walks over and opens the shoji. He steps out first and leaves the door open for Oichi. Then he sits down on the floor facing the gardens, letting his feet dangle over the edge.

He turns back and smiles at her while patting the space beside him.

"You can sit here, Oichi-dono."

[higannobana]

Oichi obediently follows him out of the room, settling herself down on the space indicated, letting her feet dangle just like he does.

What she forgets to do though, is to hand him the comb as her eyes drift over the dark garden, at the faint light of fireflies near where the ornamental pond was.

She scoots a little closer to him, and hand coming up to hang onto his clothes.

He watches the way the moonlight casts its soft glow on her and he can't help but think, she's really beautiful.

Then he coughs and holds out a hand towards her.

"Oichi-dono, please give me your comb."

[higannobana]

She doesn't even notice the coughing, preoccupied as she was with the moon's light over the inky water of the pond, but his voice itself brings her back to the present instead of the dark past that always lurked in the back of her mind.

She raises the arm holding the comb, presenting it to him with a distracted smile,

"....Here, Kyousuke."
