"Hmph."

If he cared at all (which he didn't), he'd probably have noticed that because it was him that no one was really that happy to see him at all. Sure, he was good at what he did...but he was scary...

"Ah. That reminds me! I met a friend of yours today."

"Friend....?"

He doesn't have any friends!

"Mm-hm."

(What does he consider Ryuuko then?) Akari, on the other hand, couldn't imagine why he wouldn't have any friends.

"His name is Kou-san and he said he works in the same company as you."

Shirogane immediately sits up straight when he hears that name.

Kou. He should have guessed.

"Whatever he does or says, even if he begs: ignore him."

"...why?"

"Because he's going to disappear from your sight soon."

Back to Pluto with you, Kou.

"Oh. Is he going back already?" That's too bad, Akari thinks. He seemed nice and besides, she felt like it's too short of a trip. But if it was for work then there's no helping it.

"He is. There is a lot he left behind that he needs to get done."

Like his transfer papers to Pluto.

"And whatever he said to you, you can feel free to ignore it."

"Ah, well." She laughs, "I can't ignore a costumer, Shirogane-san!" She hums a little, "but I guess if he's leaving soon, I'll have to make sure to show him as much of Neo-Venezia as I can tomorrow."

The look on his face can really only be described as murderous. Or sulky. Or possibly a combination of both.

"Leave him to die."

"...that, I really can't do."

She said with an awkward smile. After a moment though, her expression turned soft.

"You should come too next time, Shirogane-san."

"......I will when work is less busy."

He can't promise her when that's going to happen though.

She doesn't need a promise like that. A promise to come one day is good enough for her.

"I'll look forward to it."

"It may not be for a while."

"Then it just means I have more time to look forward to your arrival." She propped her chin on her palm. "It's a bit lonely, I admit, but when it's something pleasant at the end of the wait, it's also...kind of a warm feeling."

".......It may not be for a very long while."

Because he didn't want to lie to her.

"That's fine."

"It's....busy."

"I know."

And it was clear from her voice and from her expression that she really did and that she accepted it.

"I won't say I don't wish it were otherwise, but I can endure until then."

There's a long pause because he's never wanted to just leave everything behind and go to her at this moment. He swallows, opens his mouth....and then closes it again.

"I..."

She tilts her head, curious, but gives him time to speak without interrupting.

He wanted to say that he missed it. A stubborn part of him would never admit to it, but he missed it. He missed the water, the white boat, the calm days where he could sit down and do paperwork without an idiot getting underfoot every two seconds. But most of all, he missed the way she smiled and being able to see her on a screen like this only made the distance feel even greater.

"......Nothing. Work hard."

She could tell that it wasn't just 'nothing'.

"I will."

But she also knew that Shirogane was an incredibly private person so she probably shouldn't press for answers he didn't want to give. Still...

Still...seeing him make an expression like that made her chest tighten uncomfortable.

The expression on her face couldn't really be called a frown, but she wasn't smiling which is as close as Akari's ever come to a serious frown.

She reached out with one hand, fingertips brushing over the screen and tracing the image of Shirogane's face.

Akari wonders idly how such an action would look on his end. Would he find it strange? Would he even understand what she was doing? How strange, that she didn't know if he would see her gesture for what it was when he seemed so close.

(It only served to remind her that they were, quite literally, living in different worlds even if she can see his face, even if she can hear his voice.)

She laughs quietly and draws her hand back.

"It seems I really am a greedy person."

He thought she was probably multi-tasking on her end. He had switched off everything else, but that was because he was single-minded in everything and he didn't want distractions.

That was why, her statement seems like it came completely out of the blue.

"What?"
