Veronica was at BABEL as part of another official visit, having spent her past few days already touring through many different parts of Japan, and trying with all her might to see all that she could see with a very limited amount of time (and always, always a window or Rida between her and the world outside).

She was (originally) supposed to be sitting by herself and behaving until Rida came back with the rest of the Zerestrian entourage. But really, "please, please remain here, princess" could mean just to remain in the building, right? And she had been here once before and already knew her way around.

So that was why she'd abandoned her original seat as of half-an-hour ago, and was currently (cheerfully) making her way along the corridor when she catches sight of Sakaki with a livid hand print on his cheek. As there's no one to continue steering her in one direction, she stops with a frown, her hand lifting to lightly touch his cheek,

"Are you alright?"

He stops when he sees Veronica and holds a hand up in greeting, "Oh, hey, princess."

Sakaki hadn't expected to have her actually stop and touch him though. But well, he's actually not that bothered though he does stick his hands into his pockets.

"Yeah. It's no big deal." He's looking around, "Where's your attack dog?"

Veronica recognized that gesture of hands-in-pockets to be one that Glen also did. It was interesting to her, because it was such a casual one. People didn't tend to be casual when around her, so it brings a small smile to her face even as she rests her hand on his cheek. It doesn't feel too hot, but it's very obviously the mark of a hand when she looks at it closer. (It's about the size of her own hand, actually.)

"I have not brought any dogs with me."

She carefully tilts his head so that she can get a better look.

"And this does not look like it is "no big deal". Someone hit you, did they not? Why?"

For Sakaki it was meant to be a non-threatening gesture, an assurance that, hey, he's not even remotely interested in reading you!

He laughed, "No. I meant your bodyguard. The one who always looks stern."

Sakaki moves his head obligingly, "Well, I won;t say it didn't hurt, but it's nothing that hasn't happened before." He sounds fine with it, "Ah. Well. You know. The woman I was dating found out about something she didn't like."

"Rida, then. She has gone to fetch the others."

Veronica was used to being followed around by a full security team at all times even back when she was a small child. Besides, they always had very interesting stories when she talked to the ones who were on break. (She'd been told not to bother them when they were on duty and she adhered to that rule.)

"But just because it has happened before does not mean that you should be fine with it. And surely what she found out did not warrant her hitting you. It looks as if it still hurts. Does it?"

What Sakaki thinks automatically is this: this girl seriously needs supervision.

He's just going to try to brush her hand off (he is careful not to touch her though and uses the back of his wrist to do it).

"It's really not a big deal." Technically, it had been Sakaki's fault, but the sort of women Sakaki dated didn't tend to be good women either, "It doesn't even really hurt." Any more.

Getting brushed off is yet another thing that doesn't happen often, but Veronica is obliging and takes her hand back.

He's not getting off that easily though.

"What is it that she found out?"

"Geez, you really ask a lot of questions, don't you?" It wasn't a bad thing, he supposed. Better to ask too many questions than to follow blindly, he just wished she wasn't asking him all these questions.

"She found out I was dating someone else at the same time."

Because she wished to understand and she'd always been taught that understanding was the root of knowledge. So she questioned everyone she knew extensively whenever she wasn't certain of something, filling in the gaps with what they told her and what she knew to be true.

So she blinks up at him, "Why were you dating someone else at the same time? I thought dating was only between two people. Did you like both of them?"

"...not really. I mean, they're hot, but their personalities are kind of rotten. Dating isn't always about people you like, really. Sometimes it's just a couple of people killing time together."

This is the sort of thing that would get him lectured by Minamoto.

She blinks at him, the confusion evident in her eyes, "If it is simply to "kill time", then why not do something else? Surely it is better to spend time with those that you care about and who care about you in turn."

Is this karma? This must be karma. His punishment for being so good looking and stealing the heart of so many girls was having to justify his life decisions to a cute lady.

"Well, I just don't think relationships like that is worth pursuing. I like not being attached, and it's not like I have the time for anything serious." Because of work and because he's so busy flirting and dating. "It'a just not worth it in the end."

It's totally karma. Not that Veronica thinks that at all. She is genuinely confused, tilting her head at him and blinking her blue eyes.

"I disagree. I think...if you care about someone and they care about you, that there is nothing worth more. If you do not like it, I cannot fault you for that. But then what is the kind of relationship that you find meaningful then? If you do not like one where you care for each other and you think of the ones where you only use each other as "killing time", then what kinds of relationships do you like?"
