"Cold?"

She wonders if it was anything like the ice cream they had here as they enter the restaurant. Veronica's eyes are immediately drawn to the warm wood decor and paper lanterns. The waiter gives them a smile, 'Table for two?'

'Yes, thank you.'

It had been strange, hearing the language of the Han spoken in this place, even more so because it sounded a bit different from her own, but it wasn't so hard to get the hang of.

"I think you'll like it." She says as they follow the waiter, "but, of course, dessert will come later."

Veronica listens very carefully to this language that she couldn't yet completely understand, turning the sounds over in her mind before smiling at Changge,

"Dinner first, after all."

Their table is a tiny one in the corner, pressed to a wall, with a tiny copper lantern sitting on it. Veronica smiles at the little spots of light it casts over the sauce pots before taking her seat and waiting for Changge to take hers.

"What was the waiter saying earlier? Can you repeat it for me?"

She recognized 'yes' and 'thank you' from Changge but that had pretty much been it.

"Dinner first." She agrees with an easy smile as she takes her own seat across from Veronica.

"He asked us if we wanted a table for two." Then she repeats it again, in the language of the Han for Veronica.

"How would you have asked that in your language?"

And Veronica repeats it right back at her, having difficulties with not ending her vowels with a consonant but managing a fairly passible version of what Changge had said in the language of the Han before saying the phrase in Zerestrian.

Zerestrian is a very lilting, melodic-sounding language, made worse by the fact that Veronica tends to be very expressive in her speech too. She's never had any experience with someone who would say "a table for two?" so she has to make some modifications and ends up with something that is literally "a table that seats two people" and a rising tone.

"Although that may not be exactly correct. I've never really been to a restaurant back home before."

"That's pretty good." Then, because she wants to try, Changge tries to mimic what Veronica said as well. Some of the consonants sound off, and she speaks with too much of a lilt in some places, but it's not...too bad.

"I'd never been to too many when I was younger. It's how it is for princesses."

She tries hard not to think of the events leading to that change in her life. It's worthless in this place and time when the people she wants dead and the ones who want her dead do not exist.

It is a little off, but Veronica is encouraging, her eyes warm at the sound of a language so familiar to her.

"And that is very good as well."

She knew that was the way it was for princesses (for some reason) but that didn't mean that she liked it.

"We can go to many here though. Together."

"Since we're stuck here, maybe we should try to learn each other's languages?"

It would be something else for them to pass the time with.

"We can." She smiled. Changge was aware that neither of them would choose to stay, in the end, but while they're here there is no reason not to enjoy their time together.

"We should go to some when we're on missions too."

"I like that idea very, very much."

Being able to learn Changge's language, spending time together learning it...Veronica smiles just thinking about it.

"That is a wonderful idea. I wonder if there are books about local restaurants? There are books about nearly every subject here."
