"Tch."

He couldn't quite turn away when she was smiling like that so all he did was grumble a bit. There weren't any actual words, just a faint rumble of something that could have been discontent except his expression was entirely too fond for that.

The brush against his cheek made him blush more than the nip to his jaw (though nowhere near the kind of reaction she could have gotten if she had pressed her nose to his forehead. There just wasn't the same kind of implication in the action to Lion).

His thumb pressed against her throat and gently drew idly circles on the skin there while his other arm wrapped around her waist, holding her.

He's unfortunately much too tall for her to press her nose against his forehead, but her eyes close at the brush of his thumb against her throat and there is a soft, contented sound from her as she leans into his touch. She nudges her nose against his neck, burying her face into his neck and his warmth.

The hand on her neck eventually moved up to run through her hair almost idly.

It was...nice, being close to her like this. She was warm and Lion liked the way she smelled.

He wondered idly, how she and sSnowy Owl can both be birds and yet be so different.

After a moment, though, Lion yawned. Damn, it was way to early for him to be awake right now...

She feels the yawn rather than sees it, but it makes her look up with a gentle laugh, "If you are tired, we can take an afternoon nap?"

"Yeah. That would be nice..."

Veronica smiles up at him, and drawing his hand from her hair and to her lips before she pulls him to her bed. (It was more of a wide, backless couch, really. Like Eagle, she slept sitting up.)

He doesn't blush at her smile. Not at all. (Spoiler: he did.)

He lets her pull him towards the couch and he knows what it's for because he'd seen something similar at Eagle's place, but...

"Can we both fit on that?"

If he blushed, she didn't notice. She was more occupied with fluffing up pillows and trying to clear enough space for the two of them.

"I am sure it will be fine. I can roll from one end to the other, so there must be enough space. Come, Lion."

She sits down and then gives the spot beside her an expectant pat.

And even though Lion is, well, a lion and not a dog, he goes over and sits where she indicated.

"Tch. If you fall off it's not my fault." Except he's already curling and arm around your waist. He won't let you fall.

"I am sure I will not fall."

He wouldn't let her fall. With a smile, she leans up a little and pulls his head down so that she can nudge her nose against his forehead.

"And even if I did, I have absolute faith that you would catch me."

She knew the significance now although she hadn't when Kangaroo had told her to do it to Lion. Whenever. Wherever. Now though she just did it because she liked the way Lion reacted when she did.

She hums a little three note tune as she pulls away from him, obviously very pleased with herself.

His face turns beat red when she does that. It had been bad enough when she did it without knowing what it meant, but it's ten times worse knowing that she does it knowing full well what it means.

He doesn't turn away though and instead catches her behind the neck before she can pull away and quickly presses his nose to her forehead, then turns away after.

There's a beat after he presses his nose to her forehead, her eyes wide before she laughs, delighted and so content that it seemed like a dream. (But she knew it wasn't. Dreams didn't smell of sunshine and dust.)

"Do not turn away, Lion."

Gently, she puts her hands on either side of his face and turns him back to her. She presses her nose against his forehead again, lingering and carding her fingers through his hair with each bump of her nose. She wanted him to know how much she appreciated him, how thankful she was for him, for them.

That and she also kind of wanted to tease him as well.

He was stronger than her. If he wanted to, she wouldn't be able to turn his head so easily.

But when she does it, he allows it without a fight.

"...tch."

But even so he can't help the smile that pulls at the edges of his mouth.

He was smiling. Zebra coming in and announcing that he was going to give everyone rides wouldn't have stopped her from how determined she was to bump her nose against Lion's forehead. Heck, even Kangaroo busting in and announcing that he was going to give everyone rides wouldn't have stopped her.

But his smile stops her and she feels her heart soar, much the same way it always does when she leaves the cage or when she sees the sky. She pulls back to rest her forehead against his, the tips of her fingers coming up to brush against the edges of his mouth, tracing his smile.
