At the answer, she lets out a breath she didn't realize she was holding in.

There were a million other things she could ask. Bart had spent a lot of time with the prince after all.

But because of that...because Bart knew the prince and Hiroki knew Shirogane there was no actual need to ask any more.

She swallowed.

"...your highness...Shirogane...I--" And there was nothing to say except sorry. Except sorry didn't feel quite good enough. She dropped to her knees and bowed her head.

"Forgive me for my insolence."

The last thing she sees is the heartbroken expression on his face.

Yu hadn't wanted to put that expression their, felt guilty that it was there because of her. But there was no other way. The war was lost and from this point on, she will only be another worry, another burden for him to bear. She couldn't stand that.

Whatever happened tomorrow, he couldn't afford to be distracted.

My king, forgive Yu for going ahead.

Then she died and that was that.

Except...except it wasn't.

She feels herself stirring. She lay there for a moment before her eyes slowly fluttered open.

Well, if that isn't a welcome sight...

"...my king."

She can't help but laugh- he's really funny when he's all nervous, even if she doesn't really know why he's nervous.

"Thank you, Eagle- you are too kind."

Now excuse her while she starts arranging things so she can start mixing up these pancakes, yes yes.

"It is... a little difficult to explain- but it is very filling."

She blinks a little at the last bit, feeling her cheeks go faintly pink.

"Well, that is very kind of you to say. I will do my best not to disappoint."

With his role in the pancake-making done, Eagle's left to just putter about in the kitchen, occasionally looking over at her to see how things are going.

He wants to help, but at the same time....he wasn't sure if he was supposed to ask.

The last thing he remembered seeing was the wide blue sky as he wondered where she was now. Was she happy now? Was she waiting for him?

And then he had died and that was that.

Except it hadn't been, and that person had offered him whatever he wanted if he would lend him his power. So he had, and as he watches her eyes open, he pulls her close.

"Idiot...!"

And it's very much the prince who straightens up, and turns on his heel to walk back off the roof. Just...out of here. To anywhere, it didn't matter. Somewhere he could think by himself.

He somehow manages a gritted,

".....There is nothing to forgive."

He's not sure then if it's him or the prince saying that.

She didn't resist when he pulled her close. She didn't care about how or why they.

She only brought her arms up to hold onto him, because since a long time ago the thing she cared about the most was him. Whether it was in a hovel or a palace, whether it was Hell or Heaven or anywhere else, she only wanted to be where this person was.

At the sight of the first tear, Kyousuke panicked, afraid that he'd done something wrong yet again.

It passed soon enough, then he remembered Fujiko-san's lecture from before and felt guilty.

He froze for a moment, not entirely sure what he was supposed to do. After a moment his hand moved from the top of her head to behind her neck. He gently pulled her towards him.

"I'm sorry, Oichi-dono. You can stay for as long as you want. I won't let anyone take you away."

"...okay?"

He wasn't sure what she was doing here then, but didn't ask because he didn't want her to think he wanted her gone or anything like that.

He blinked then stepped aside to let her in.

"Please come in, Oichi-dono." If they talked like this, she'll get cold. They can figure out what's going on when she was safe and warm inside.

"You won't."

It never even occurred to him she would. His stomach growled again and he laughed sheepishly.

"I think...filling is probably good right now. Is there anything I can help with?"

She doesn't resist, settling herself against him and holding onto the fabric of his kimono like her life depended on it. The crying is mostly tears more than anything else....there isn't any sobbing. Just tears.

As far as she was concerned, this was a success? All she really wanted was Kyousuke's company, and she had it now.

Brightening up, she enters the room, still holding onto the comb. Oh. Right.

"Kyousuke."

He slides the shoji closed behind her, leaving it open partway so anyone passing by could see that there was nothing improper going on.

Then he turns to look back at her.

"Yes? What is it?"

And if he tries to leave, she won't stop him.

Honestly, she could use some time to sort out her thoughts herself.

She'll be waiting for him at the school gates at the end of the day, though.

She more or less ignores the cheers and only turns to wave at people she knew as they passed. Otherwise, she was making a beeline for the gardens with Eagle in tow.

"They sure are a lively bunch." She says as they leave the school building.

He walks right past her, despite having seen her. He tells himself it doesn't matter anyway. It doesn't matter.

"Y-Yeah. They don't mean any harm though."

He looks down at his feet as he allows himself to be led wherever she wants to go. "They're very kind."

"Why are you even assuming it's me!?"

She covers her mouth with a hand and when the giggling dies down a little she pats him on the shoulder.

"Thank you, Eagle. That's...it's really sweet of you."

He will hold onto her for as long as she wants, his arm curling protectively around her waist.

She follows him wordlessly.

It doesn't matter if he doesn't speak to her (except it kind of did).

When they're a bit further from the school...

"Are you still angry?"

Oichi cries until she's exhausted herself and all that's left in her is sniffles and a feeling of emptiness. She can feel her eyes drift closed as she buries her face against his neck.

'It is so...warm...'

"Ichi wants to sleep here."
