SenbasaxKingdom Hearts AU: these days of childhood wonders
It had been a while since she'd been brought to this place. But still she couldn't stop looking at everything with awe and trepidation. Even now she can't bring herself to touch most things because what if she breaks something?
Still, she was slowly getting accustomed to thinking of this place as home, and the people here as family.
And speaking of family...her new brother promised to (or maybe he was just asked to, she was never entirely sure) show her around, today. She smoothed a hand over kimono nervously. She'd gotten better at not messing it up now, but fidgeting was a habit she hadn't broken yet (But she was working on it, honest!)

As she fiddles with her kimono, Sakichi makes his way towards the room Aqua was waiting in, inclining his head in her direction. She seems preoccupied with smoothing out some invisible wrinkles in her attire, which causes him to grimace a bit. She needed to break that habit. He stands quietly for a few moments, waiting for her to acknowledge him - when she fails to, he clears his throat and takes a step forward.
"Are you prepared?"

So when Sakichi clears his throat she starts, "Y-yes!" She ducked her head, embarassed that she hadn't noticed him before.
"Sorry. I didn't see you there." She mumbled after.
I can't remember what childhood name we decided on for her for this AU...
It was Nanami, I think.
She followed behind him, for the most part quietly. Though eventually her curiosity trumped her embarrassment, "Are we going into the village, then?
Right! I couldn't remember if it was Nanami or Minami...
Sakichi had been tasked by Hanbei to ensure that she adjusted to life in the castle. Not wanting to let the strategist down, the boy was more than willing to do whatever he could to ensure that Nanami grew accustomed to her new life.
"Yes," he finally replied, eyes moving forward once again. "Lord Hanbei has tasked me with tending to you and getting you more acquainted with the palace and its grounds - part of this palace is its people down below in the village. Becoming acquainted with the workings of the peasants will allow you to better understand the workings of this castle."
It was a lesson, one similar to something Sakichi himself had learned shortly after he first arrived. Now it was his turn, to pass his knowledge towards the blue-haired girl that was now his family.
What is she supposed to call him anyway? /fails at Feudal Japanese everything
Still, they were family now, and she was determined to make this work as well as she can.
"What's the village like?" The fact that he seemed to know so much was both amazing and a little intimidating. She wondered if this was what all little sisters felt like when talking to an older sibling who seemed to know everything.
This is Basara, she can call him anything she wants :|a
"It is very busy this time of day, the market in the center of the village is open. Although the village seems small from up here in the castle, you will see it is much larger than it appears," he tells her, finding that a better choice of words than flatly saying it was big and it had people.
"You must stay near me at all times."
lol, true. XD
"I will! I promise." She said earnestly, all embarrassment forgotten now. Before this she'd lived in a small town for most of her life. The size of the village Sakichi was talking about (of which she'd seen briefly when she was being brought here) was something she'd only ever been able to imagine before coming here.
"Sakichi-oniisama, what about the market? What's it like? Will we be going there today?"
sorry for slownesssss
He trusted in Sakichi to keep young Nanami safe.
The two recently acquainted siblings move towards the gates and just as Sakichi had said, there were about four servants waiting there with horses. The four men were readying their mounts, the large, brown horses waiting patiently to begin. Between the four animals was a much smaller horse, a much younger one than the rest. Its pelt was was a pristine white, the hair matching Sakichi's own. As Hanbei's apprentice and his newfound sister approach, the four servants all turn and bow respectfully, offering up a greeting before one moves to fetch a saddle for the white pony.
"Nanami. As you are my responsibility, you shall ride with me," he states, gesturing to the pony. "Though Kaiwari appears small, she is very strong. You need not fear her bucking or swaying."
It's okay. We can be slow together.
She still wasn't used to having people bow to her, that much was obvious from her expression when they approached the gate. Though her discomfort was forgotten when she spotted their mount.
"Oh, she's beautiful." She reached out to run a hand over her coat, "Is she yours?"
no subject
"She is. Lord Hanbei presented to me in the spring - I expect he too will do the same of you, when you come of age," he says, speaking as though he were many years her senior. The age difference between them was minimal at best and Sakichi was not even an adult yet, even if he spoke with the air of one. The servants finish placing the saddle and adjusting the young mare's reins, nodding to Sakichi and bowing once it was completed. He nods his head in response before turning back to the girl.
"Go on. Climb into the saddle."
no subject
Besides which, there wasn't any time to be thinking about age differences and all that.
"I'll get one too?" Her eyes were wide as saucers as she stared at Sakichi, then back at the pony. Make no mistake, she was grateful for all the fine kimonos and all the lovely things she'd been given so far, but a pony...that was something completely different.
Though when she was told to actually get on the animal...
She stared at her feet for a moment before looking up at her new brother. "I don't know how." And then, a bit more shyly. It didn't occur to her to turn to the servants for help. She wasn't used to having servants, even now, and so far he'd been willing to answer her questions.
"Can you teach me how?" Teach her, but not necessarily help her do it, because she felt like she should learn how to do it for herself.
