When Neuro had first dragged her kicking and clawing into the vicious world of pre-debut, Yako had thought she might understand what Hell was. the training regimen was brutal, and most of the would-be idols were either totally self-absorbed, or flat-out cutthroat. It was a merciless, dog-eat-dog process, and when she had finally been selected to make her debut, she thought that she had finally reached salvation. Then Neuro, who was apparently the president of the agency, not a simple agent or a recruiter, had made what seemed at the time to be a completely whimsical addendum: she would debut as part of an idol duo.
Over time, she realized this was not a matter of whimsy, but of ruthless sadism.
She had thought Sai was sweet and cute, when they first met. A bit childish, despite being older than her, but in an endearing, charming way. Of course, once the cameras stopped rolling and they were sent off to the large apartment they would have to share, the truth immediately surfaced. He wasn't sweet or gentle—he was spoiled, selfish, whimsical, cruel, and volatile in turns. He did have moments of gentleness, but she rarely saw them when they weren't around other people.
No, what Yako saw was the cold, hateful look in his eyes when the idol Eleven from NB Entertainment, their rival of sorts, gained any acclaim. She saw the tantrums, and the beatdowns he occasionally went out to give random punks just barely enough to keep their reputations squeaky clean. She saw the messiness, the meanness, the part of him—which was basically all of him—that never grew out of being a little boy who liked to pull ants apart, piece by piece.
She had gotten used to it over their time together, though. The violent whiplash between his sugary-sweet, affectionate persona when they were in the limelight as CHROMOSOME and his self-absorbed, sometimes outright idiotic sadism when they weren't somehow became commonplace for her.
Today was no different from any other, in it's own way. She was lounging on one of their large couches, surfing the internet while Sai was doing something that sounded suspiciously like stabbing the NB memorabilia their manager Ai, a retired idol herself, had bought at his request.
"Those better not be my kitchen knives," was all she had to say on the matter, before frowning at something on her screen. "Hey, Sai...did you know people 'ship' celebrities with each other?"
