Maybe it was because every minute with him had been precious. Every minute was another step closer to the day they would part forever...and she would have done anything to spare him that pain, if just for a little longer.
Anything except, perhaps, the only thing she should have done from the beginning which is staying away. Even now, she can't say for sure if that had been the right choice for him, but it was a little too late to be thinking about that. (She'd done enough of that when she was on her own in this place.)
