The way his voice sounded broke her heart a little. She knew her death would be hard for him to accept, but maybe it was even worse than what she'd thought.
She wasn't going to apologize though. Apologizing would mean she regretted what they had and she couldn't do that.

She laughed instead; the shaky, unsteady, breathless laughter of someone who wasn't entire sure whether to laugh or cry. Her voice sounded about the same.
"When did you get so clingy? Not that I'm complaining or anything..." Quite the opposite, really. The feeling of her arms around him, of her palms on his back and in his hair...it was all so achingly familiar. "Because I missed you too."
